The first in a new series of One Day goes behind the scenes with the workers in Ireland's beauty and fitness business.

It takes a workforce of 30,000 beauticians,  hairdressers and fitness trainers to keep the rest of us looking good. In return, we spend a total of 9 MILLION EUROEVERYDAY – the cost of Keeping Ireland Beautiful!

The documentary follows a typical working day for  the people who perfume, pamper or persuade us, for a living.

The first in a new run of the popular documentary strand presents a fascinating insight into our changing relationship with animals. ONE DAY : KEEPING IRELAND COMPANY features the stories of people who spend their working lives in the company of animals. From bulldogs to pedigree bulls, from rescue hens to racing pigeons, the animal/pet industry in Ireland is booming. It's the story of the people who feed, exercise, comfort and muck out …. all in ONE DAY

Filmed in multiple locations, the documentary follows a typical day for those who make it their mission to monitor, patrol rescue and respond to danger.

Around 100,000 people- or 5% of the workforce- work in a job involving safety. This includes An Garda Síochana, lifeguards, door supervisors, driving instructors, hospital hygiene attendants, air traffic controllers, self defence experts and motorway crash recovery drivers.

Every day, and every night, this army of people drawn from all walks of life work on the frontline – and out of public view – to keep us safe.

Filmed over 24 hours, cameras are behind the scenes with people who go to work so that the rest of us can switch off.

Featuring burlesque dancers, beauty therapists, stand-up comics, event caterers and food delivery cyclists, the programme gives a fascinating snapshot of Ireland at play.

Feeding Ireland is a 24:7 process with no let up...there's the baker in Wexford who starts work at 5am to ensure there's fresh bread on supermarket shelves nationwide...the potato grower who begins the harvest at 7am on a farm in County Meath...   the caterers who fill and pack  200,000 sandwiches every day...The Irish Army chef preparing lunch for 150 soldiers at a field kitchen canteen in Cork...a  wedding reception for 150 guests at 5pm in County Cavan...  the charity soup-run at 9pm  that's a lifeline for rough sleepers...  the 12pm  take-away wolfed-down after a night on the town.
