April 1959. Tanya Meshcherskaya, who grew up in an orphanage, goes to Moscow to visit her father, academician Vikenty Ryabinsky. She has with her a letter to her father and an old brooch inherited from her mother, which is stolen. Vincent is happy to have a daughter, as he loved her mother, Lilya Meshcherskaya. However, his wife, Maria Pavlovna, takes Tanya with hostility. She is trying to find out details from Vincent's sister, Kisa. Kisa doubts that Vikenty is Tanya's father, and she turns out to be right. But everything turns out too late...
