In the quiet coastal town of Saint-Michel, a disturbing scene unfolds deep in the woods as an unknown figure digs beside a hidden shape.

Meanwhile in England, single mother Sarah Gleason sends her teenage daughter Katie on a school exchange trip to the south of France. Before Katie leaves, Sarah reminds her to stay in touch. The trip is supervised by teacher Neil Scott and Sarah's boyfriend Jason Bradley is driving the group to Saint-Michel.

Katie is assigned to stay with the well-respected Morvan family, whose daughter Emma greets her with an uneasy politeness. While Sarah spends a quiet weekend at home, Katie quickly becomes absorbed in to the social life of the exchange students. Parties, alcohol, and tensions within the group begin to surface.

Late one night, Sarah misses a call from her daughter. When Katie suddenly stops answering messages, Sarah's concern turns to alarm. The host family, the school, and the supervising teacher all insist that Katie is simply out with friends. But something about their explanations feels wrong.

Unable to shake the feeling that her daughter is in danger, Sarah flies to France. Once in Saint-Michel, she finds a town reluctant to answer questions. The police appear slow to act, the Morvans seem strangely calm, and students at the school are evasive.

As Sarah begins asking questions herself, she discovers Katie spent her last known night with a troubled local boy named Xavier and another unidentified girl. Surveillance footage soon confirms Katie was in town only hours before she vanished.

Then Sarah receives a message from Katie's phone - one that turns her worst fears into a terrifying possibility.

Sarah brings the alarming message on Katie's phone to the police, hoping it will push the investigation forward. Yet when she tries to show it again, the message has mysteriously disappeared. The uncertainty deepens doubts about what really happened the night Katie vanished.

As Captain Jerome Ricard and Lieutenant Virginie Taylor continue their inquiries, Sarah begins her own search through Saint-Michel. At a local bar she learns that Katie was seen on the night of her disappearance with Xavier and Emma Morvan, shortly before an incident that caused damage at a nearby hotel.

Determined to find answers, Sarah tracks Xavier to his isolated caravan outside town. Inside she discovers troubling signs of drug activity and traces of blood. When Xavier returns unexpectedly, the confrontation turns tense, but he insists Katie left alone after an argument with Emma.

Meanwhile, the investigation uncovers new evidence linking several students to the events of that night. Virginie's questioning of Emma raises further inconsistencies, especially after an item belonging to Katie is discovered hidden among Emma's belongings.

Tensions escalate between Sarah and the Morvan family, whose reactions grow increasingly defensive. The town itself seems divided - some residents sympathetic, others openly hostile to Sarah's relentless questioning.

Then a new development shocks the community: Katie's backpack suddenly appears in a public place connected to an older local tragedy.

Virginie reveals that another teenage girl disappeared in Saint-Michel five years earlier under eerily similar circumstances. As the parallels between the two cases begin to emerge, Sarah realises Katie's disappearance may be part of something far more complicated than anyone first believed.

With the investigation gaining attention, tensions rise in Saint-Michel. Sarah confronts Lieutenant Virginie Taylor about the similarities between Katie's disappearance and the earlier case of Odile Lambert, a local girl who vanished years before.

Virginie reveals that new forensic evidence connects Xavier to Katie's belongings, while local authorities prepare a large search of the surrounding woods. Yet Captain Jerome Ricard appears reluctant to reopen Odile's case, warning Virginie against pursuing connections that could damage the town.

Refusing to step back, Sarah begins investigating on her own. Her search leads her to people who were connected to Odile years earlier, uncovering troubling accounts of how that case was handled - and how some leads may have been ignored.

Meanwhile, cracks begin to appear within the investigation itself. Virginie secretly reviews the old case file and discovers that several key details were never fully resolved. The revelations raise uncomfortable questions about people close to her.

As volunteers, students, and police comb the forest for evidence, Sarah notices strange relationships between several individuals involved in the search - connections that seem too coincidental to ignore.

Back at the school, tensions among the exchange students reach a breaking point. One student reveals disturbing messages sent to Katie shortly before she disappeared, pointing suspicion toward someone previously overlooked.

As new suspects emerge and personal secrets surface, Sarah uncovers another unsettling detail: on the night Katie vanished, she made a phone call to someone Sarah knows very well.

Moments later, a violent confrontation erupts that dramatically changes the course of the investigation.

In the aftermath of a shocking incident near the riverbank, the investigation into Katie's disappearance intensifies. The tragedy sends shockwaves through Saint-Michel and deepens Sarah's determination to uncover what really happened to her daughter.

Certain that the Morvan family is hiding something, Sarah openly accuses Fabien Morvan of being involved in the events surrounding Katie's disappearance. The accusation sparks conflict within the town, drawing increased media attention to the case.

As journalists begin arriving in Saint-Michel, Sarah publicly links Katie's disappearance to the earlier case of Odile Lambert, forcing local authorities to confront questions that have lingered for years.

Lieutenant Virginie Taylor begins digging deeper into both cases, revisiting old witness statements and investigating a suspicious vehicle that may have been seen the night Odile vanished. Her search begins to expose troubling gaps in the earlier investigation.

At the same time, Sarah receives a shocking new message that suggests Katie's story may not yet be over. The message sparks renewed urgency within the police inquiry, and Virginie works quickly to trace its origin.

Meanwhile, tensions grow among several people connected to the case as long-buried secrets threaten to surface. Relationships within the police force itself begin to strain as Virginie questions decisions made in the past.

A disturbing discovery soon leads investigators back into the woods, where they uncover evidence that could change the direction of the investigation.

As suspicion spreads through Saint-Michel and the list of possible suspects grows, Virginie begins to suspect that the truth about both disappearances may lie closer to home than anyone expected.

A grim discovery in the woods pushes the investigation into a new phase. As police and volunteers gather at the site, Sarah anxiously waits for confirmation of whether the body discovered there is connected to Katie's disappearance.

Although the investigation continues, new evidence begins to cast suspicion on several people in Saint-Michel. Sarah becomes increasingly convinced that one of the town's residents may know more than they are admitting.

Her suspicions lead her to investigate local contractor Mark Jones, whose movements on the night Katie disappeared raise troubling questions.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Virginie Taylor follows a different lead as Xavier, recovering from his injuries, finally agrees to talk. His testimony reveals previously hidden connections between several figures involved in the case and raises further suspicions about the Morvan family.

As arrests begin to follow, the fragile alliances within Saint-Michel start to collapse. Personal loyalties are tested, and long-buried secrets begin to surface.

Virginie also continues to investigate the disappearance of Odile Lambert, whose case now appears increasingly entangled with Katie's. As she revisits evidence from years earlier, inconsistencies in the official account begin to emerge.

While the police close in on the truth, Sarah refuses to give up hope that her daughter might still be alive. With time running out and the investigation reaching a critical turning point, Virginie follows a final lead that could reveal what really happened in Saint-Michel - and who has been hiding the truth all along.
