Rina is a poor young hunchback woman who sells paper flowers and straw dolls at traffic lights in Mexico City to support her sick father and siblings.
An eccentric, wealthy old man named Don Leopoldo meets Rina. Despising his greedy family, he manipulates Rina into marrying him purely to ensure his fortune passes to her rather than his sister-in-law, Doña Rafaela.
Leopoldo dies shortly after the marriage, leaving Rina a massive fortune and estate. Doña Rafaela plots ruthlessly to manipulate Rina and strip her of the inheritance. Complications peak when Rina falls in love with Rafaela's handsome son, Carlos Augusto.
