FAQ

Cadence wrote 9 years ago: 1

Hey all!

First, I'm new to this site, so I just wanted to say that I think it's wonderful. I was looking for a website that served as something similar to 'myanimelist', but for Western TV, and this really fits the bill. I joined up a while back, and was medium happy with the results, but after recently coming back, it looks like a *lot* of fantastic improvements were made in the right direction.

Second, I had two questions/suggestions:

1. Is there an FAQ? I saw someone suggest an easily accessible 'help' section 3 months back, so I imagine it does not exist. I do want to say that, as a newish user, I did find using this site with no 'instructions' to be quite challenging at first (although I do think I have the hang of it at this point).

2. Is there anyway to find forum posts I previously made? Or a list of followed forum threads? I can see article comments on profiles, but it only has a number related to 'social' for forum posts. I went back and found my posts manually, followed the threads, but cannot seem to find that info in my profile either.

Thanks all! Really great work you're all doing here :). Beautiful site.

Hi Candence,

Welcome to TVmaze :)

Three months ago, there was no FAQ indeed, however we have created one. It can be found here; http://www.tvmaze.com/faqs

You could write your own name in the forum search to find your own posts or use terms about previous topics if you remember what you were talking about .

Thanks for the reply Thomas. I wonder if there is an easy and obvious place to put a link to the FAQ? There is none on the main page, and I think people new to the site, or coming to the home page, might find it helpful somewhere front and center.

I'd agree with that; also adding either a link or a button to create new shows; it's not terribly intuitive to figure out.

Actually there is a link available to members. When you start editing, this message is appearing;

Please carefully read our Show Policy before making any edits. If you're unsure or if you want to make any large changes, please open a thread on our data forums first.

To create a show wiki, click here.

The first link ''Show Policy'' will forward you to our FAQ, although I agree it might be added on the bottom of our screen :)

Oh, I understand now. I posted that before checking out the FAQ. That makes a lot of sense for what the FAQ presently looks like.

I suppose I also meant information about the functionality of the site overall. For example, before discovering the 'Follows' tab on the Dashboard, I had no idea where to find the shows I had marked all episodes as watched. The learning curve was a little high for a person new to the site trying to learn how to use it. Another example is how, in this thread, I asked about where to find my forum posts. Given my initial difficulty with seemingly hidden functions here, I was unsure if that sort of thing existed and I had missed it, or if it did not exist.

A lot of the simpler functions are intuitive (e.g., marking shows or episodes as watched, following shows/people/networks), but some of the more complex functions took some time to learn.

Anyway, thanks for the input!

Yes, some features are a bit hard to find at first, but once you understand our system, it becomes quite easy. It might be told to new members indeed about some features, but feel free to ask us if there's another question or features you don't entirely understand.

Okay, sounds good.

Would it be okay if I tried to write up an FAQ-like document? I'm happy to use my recent 'struggles' to highlight potential issues for newcomers. If the document is good enough, you could use that :).
