Hello,

The pilot of the sixth season called bargaining aired as one 90 minute episode, that is why we have one episode less than tvdb, they used part 1 and part 2.

cheers
Juan

Basically if a show has two episodes with the same title, and they have the same air date, most likely it was originally broadcast as one episode.

Often a two-hour "special" episode gets broken up into two parts for repeats and syndication. Since... TNT and a few other networks aired Buffy in one-hour blocks, they would have broken it up into two one-hour episodes. But that's not how it originally aired. Websites vary in how they list such occurrences

Sometimes the DVD is a good way to tell, as they will revert to the original air format. But sometimes they don't. Depends on the production company, the rights ownership, and the condition of the original masters. The 1980s Stingray show, for instance, originally the premiere aired on NBC as a two-hour episode/movie. But then CBS got the rights, and they only had access to the split-in-half format, not the original NBC "movie." And apparently the masters of the episode in its two-hour format suck. So it's two separate episodes on the DVD. But that's not how it originally aired.
