Banshee Season 4 Episode 4

tnt wrote 9 years ago: 1

In the official press release this episode was named Innocent Might Be a Bit of a Stretch (proof). Later, on the Cinemax website, the name was changed to Bloodletting.

Since there was no on-screen title in the episode, the name should be Innocent Might Be a Bit of a Stretch, because by the TVMaze policy press release has precedence over a website.

So this is the reason why episode appeared as unwatched on the watchlist yesterday :D

yeh , sorry :)

I have reverted this change. I am pretty sure this episode was named ''Bloodletting' a day in advance or on the day of airing itself. To take precedence of a press release over it's official link is ridiculous from my point of view. They changed the name for a reason, while it may have had a different title before. Why should we use an different policy for series titles and episode titles?

Also - the press release (if that is the gospel) for the DVD/Blu-Ray release has the final title as given by Cinemax. Snippet pasted below.

It wasn't me who wrote episode policy :D
And as i've said before, i think that official site should have precedence over press releases, for many reasons. But for the time being order of precedence is other way around, so we either follow the policy or review it.

The name of the episode here was "Innocent Might Be a Bit of a Stretch" and locked as this. I clearly remember, that name "Bloodletting" was given to this episode only when it became available at the Cinemax website, which was definitely after it was aired. Even in schedule the name was different (proof)

It's not a press release, it's just a quote from series website.

Just to be clear – i have nothing against either of names, both are fine.

But this situation raises a global question about priority of the sources. A persuasive precedent so to speak :D

I agree with Thomas, the episode should be named Bloodletting.

A more general observation is that if common sense is obstructed by a policy, then the policy needs to change.

There is no policy stating that press releases will have precedence over official sites :). I know David told you something else on the 'Edit Request thread', but I will speak with him as I am sure official sites should have precedence.

...yes there is.

In some cases, there might be multiple sources that conflict with each other. When that happens, they should be considered in the following order:

1. Data shown on-screen during the episode's announcement, intro, or credits

2. Data in a press release or press kit
3. Data on the show's official website
4. Data in TV guides/TV listings/EPG's for the show's country
5. Statements by show crew in articles / interviews

That does not make sense at all to give preferences to press releases which is often subject to lots of changes. Definitely nr. 2 and 3 should be swapped.

I don't have an opinion on the matter, just letting you know that it is in fact policy.

Yes, I totally agree.

Maybe my English is not good enough, but that's what i've been talking about earlier:)

Gazza is correct, press release data takes priority over a show's official website. This is intentional, as we frequently saw that show websites are unreliable. If you disagree with that, feel free to put it up for discussion, but in a separate thread. For the time being, the policy stands and if the episode really doesn't contain a title in the intro or credits, the one from the press release must be used.

That's what i've said: "we either follow the policy or review it". I think Thomas will definitely argue with you on that matter ))))

Would you be so kind to change the name of episode in question back to the press release name?

deleted wrote 9 years ago: 1

As I spoke with Jan last night, he said to stick with bloodletting as most sources (official and unofficial) are using that name.

david wrote 9 years ago: 1

I'm going to close this thread, because all these mixed signals are just going to be very confusing to people trying to follow the discussion.

We have a policy for a reason, if we don't follow it when there's a complicated scenario we could just as well throw it away. So the policy's word is final and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

If anyone wants to plea for a policy change, please open a new thread. :)
