Emojis not working

KuraikoDesu wrote 8 years ago: 1

I'm currently trying to add new episodes to Neo Magazin Royale but one of the episode titles (I've provided a screenshot) gives me a "something went wrong" error message because it's made up of emojis. They can also not be used in comments (thus the screenshot).

Do you have a screenshot of the actual episode name, or a link to where it's used? As we could just set it to the nearest thing

That is the actual episode name. It's only those three emojis.

Could you provide us the url/link where you got the error message?

Where are you getting those episode titles from? As far as I can tell from the official site, episodes have no titles, just broadcast date and guest list, as in many other talk shows.

You can find them over here: https://www.fernsehserien.de/neo-magazin-royale/episodenguide ...or on Wikipedia but I suppose that's not a preferred source. They are also listed on the official ZDF page for each specific episode e.g.: https://www.zdf.de/comedy/neo-magazin-mit-jan-boeh...

Surely not allowing emojis is a feature and not a bug..

I'm talking about the error that was caused. Not being able to post emojis as titles is indeed preferred behavior.

It doesn't work because the episode title you refer to uses 4-byte UTF8, while we only support up to 3-byte UTF8.

I would say this is mostly a feature instead of a bug, because an episode title with just a smiley is quite ridiculous. As far as I know the 3-byte set covers pretty much every regular character, while the 4-byte set just adds smileys and other icons.

The error message should definitely be more clear though!

You'll now get a proper error message if you try to use an unsupported character.
