How to deal with alternate versions of episodes

kimbiel wrote 8 years ago: 1

Some shows have alternate versions of episodes - eg. A Place to Call Home episode S02E10. The first version was assuming to show ended. The second version was leading into season 3.

In the show "The Outer Limits [1995]" episodes exist in censored and uncensored versions eg S02E02, S02E14 and S02E16 and so on

We go by however the original network aired them; if an "alternative version" of an episode aired there, it can be added.

In the case of Outer Limits, I believe that they aired originally on... Showtime? in an uncensored form, and then were aired later in syndication in censored form.

Kind of like how the first episode of Stargate SG-1 on Showtime had nudity on it, which was excised in the syndicated/SyFy reruns. Presumably those wouldn't be original network airings.

In the case of "A Place to Call Home" it is slightly more more confusing. The show was originally developed by Seven Network (2013-2014) who decide to end the show after season 2. Last episode of season 2 (the original) attempts to close the story line.

Later (2015) the show was taken up by SoHo network - season 3 and an alternate ending of season 2 was aired. Now the show was again taken over by Showcase network where season 4 was aired (2016) and season 5 is in production for 2017.

If the Network information on the miain page was renamed to "current network" and each episode cintained data for "network aired" your data would be more correct ane you could have two instances of episode S02E10 - one for each original network. Alternatively you could have the alternate ending listed as a special.
