It's indeed not that common for a show to announce it's final season. A more common situation is Cancellation while running. Final Season would still not work for this criteria as there are shows that are cancelled and picked up again later on. (futurama, family dad, arrested development,...)

It is becoming much more common especially for the longer running shows. There will always be exceptions and changes to a shows status but it is far more common that a shows "final season" is indeed it's final season and when the exception occurs, that's why the edit button was created.

I'd like to see Final Season added as a status between Running and Ended when that information is known (ie the upcoming season of Grimm)

Maybe I should expand on my reason for the suggestion. Sometimes I may not be up-to-date on all the current statuses of shows, and there are people who probably don't follow that info at all so a status of Final Season would be a reminder and/or notification on a shows main page. For example, starting Jan 2017 Grimm would have a status of Final Season instead of Running while it's final 13 episodes play out, then it gets switched to Ended.

I can understand your wish for this and as you said it gets more and more common that a final season is announced.

We're not going to add a status when it's only going to be used in a handful of scenarios, but if it does get more common we can consider it. :)
