THE WINCHESTERS: EXCITING CHARACTER DETAILS FOR INTRIGUING NEW SUPERNATURAL PREQUEL: EXCLUSIVE

Posted by Caitlin Tyrrell | Mar 7, 2022 | Exclusives, Fantasy, Horror, TV | 0

Supernatural ran for a total of 15 seasons making it the longest running live-action American fantasy series. However, series star Jensen Ackles felt there was still more story to tell.

The CW ordered a pilot that could continue the saga if it gets picked up, The Winchesters, a prequel focusing on Sam and Dean’s parents. Jensen Ackles is executive producing The Winchesters through their company Chaos Machine Productions. In an interview with Deadline, Ackles explained what inspired The Winchesters.

“After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’” Jensen Ackles continued. “When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”

The Winchesters: Exciting Character Details For Intriguing New Supernatural Prequel: Exclusive - The Illuminerdi

The Winchesters is being written and executive produced by Robbie Thomas, former co-executive producer of Supernatural. The series, told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) is described as the epic untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line not only to save their love, but the entire world.

That Hashtag Show revealed details about four of the characters in The Winchesters, notably Mary Campbell and John Winchester, the parents of Dean and Sam, as well as two other demon hunters Latika Desai and Carlos Cervantez. We here at The Illuminerdi have managed to uncover four more characters that will be a part of the upcoming Supernatural prequel, The Winchesters.

The Winchesters is looking to cast an African-American woman in her 40s to play Ada. Ada owns a rare book emporium, she helps Mary and her father Samuel Campbell translate an ancient text. Ada also knew John’s father years ago. Ada warns John against the dangers of following in his father’s footsteps.

The Winchesters is also looking to cast a Caucasian woman in her 40s to play Millie Winchester, John Winchester’s estranged mother. Millie is described as a bit of a recluse with her own auto shop in town. Millie resents her husband abandoning her and their son. She was also wounded by her son, John, enlisting in the Marine Corp at 17, leaving her all alone. She loves her son and wants him to stop looking for answers about his father, but recognizes that John is too stubborn to listen.

The Winchesters is looking to cast a Caucasian woman in her 40s to play Deanna Campbell, Mary’s mother. Deanna is part of the Campbell demon hunting family and is suspicious of outsiders including John Winchester. Although Deanna didn’t originally sign up for this life she embraced it after meeting Samuel. She wants Mary to continue the family legacy of demon hunting.

The Winchesters is also looking to cast a Caucasian man in his 40s to play Samuel Campbell, Mary’s father. Samuel is described as a tough as nails demon hunter, with a thick build and thinning hair. Born of a long line of hunters which can be traced all the way back to the Mayflower. He has been pressuring his daughter, Mary, to continue their family’s legacy of hunting all her life. Samuel goes missing after he and Mary are attacked by a demon leaving her with very few clues as to how she can find him.

Supernatural was inherently a series about family focusing on Dean and Sam with more about their family revealed through the series, now The Winchesters could explore their parents, and grandparents in a way that fans never got to fully experience in the long running CW series. Fans got to know John Winchester and Mary Campbell in Supernatural, but the series primarily looked at them as Dean and Sam’s parents.

The Winchesters is a chance to dive into their history and the love story that was touched on in the original series. The fact that Dean Winchester will be narrating the series is especially interesting and how they will frame his narration is an intriguing mystery. This is not the first Supernatural spin-off to be set up, with Bloodlines and Wayward Sisters introduced as backdoor pilots although those never came to fruition. Hopefully The CW will pick up The Winchesters and continue digging into the world of Supernatural from this exciting new angle.
