Should we add a rule that Web Channel airtimes can only be added if they are specifically announced - and not because they "usually air at that time"?

Yes, sounds reasonable. If the show have only release date – we're adding only a date. If it have a time – we're adding a time as well :)

Note that this is already the case for web channel shows without airtime. Quoting: Special care should be taken when episodes air after midnight. To ensure that the episode airdates on TVmaze are in line with the dates used by TV guides and listings worldwide, episodes that start airing after midnight but before 5:00 are considered part of the previous day. (...) This only applies to broadcast TV shows or Web Channels that operate in a single country; global Web Channel shows should have their airdate set to the exact date that's announced for them.

Should we also change how country-specific Web Channel episodes should be handled? I don't know, I think it's a bit too early to tell.

Does that mean, that web channel shows are processed differently? If I add Hulu episode with airdate Jan 1 and airtime 01:00AM, where it will appear in schedule, on Jan1 or Jan 2?

This could be tricky. I'm afraid that web channels linked to networks (like CBS AA) will have their airtimes the same way as broadcast networks (with the day ending at ~05:00AM), but standalone web channels (like Hulu) would be operating in more traditional way, simply using the time of the day. It's hard to tell because there's not enough data now, there's too few of those channels.

This seems reasonable.

In our implementation it doesn't make a difference whether the show has a web channel or not. The difference is whether episodes have an airtime set or not: if there's no airtime, it (obviously?) won't move to a different date.

Yeah, but what if it have airtime? It will behave the same way as broadcasted show?

You'll have an issue if airtime is between 0:00 and 5:00 and both a Network and a Web Channel has been added.

Should you set the airdates as the previous day (Network) or actual day (Web Channel)?

If "usually" equals pretty much all shows on that network, the airtime should be added.
Otherwise all of this was for nothing. Hulu won't start announcing times just because we want them to.

Airtime should not be set unless specifically announced by network/web channel.

That's ironic as this thread only exists so that the Hulu airtimes could be added.
Hulu always has the same time, never announces them.

Hm, i thought the purpose of this thread was to separate Hulu from Hulu Japan, because it's two different entities? Which was done.

And anyway, IMO having a correct release date for a Hulu shows is more important, than having some extrapolated airtime at the cost of having the wrong airdate (or wrong positioning in the schedule).

markus wrote 7 years ago: 1

Well yes. The initial reason for not ignoring that was, that this mixup meant no country, no default time and therefore no possibility to add airtimes.
I'm not really familiar with the schedule, but if more accurate data makes things worse, the problem is likely with how it is handled.
I'm using the calendar instead, and only an airtime will give me a correct entry for my timezone there.
