Tyler Perry's If Loving You Is Wrong season numbering discrepancy

There are different seasonal numbering schemes available to use for http://www.tvmaze.com/shows/3491/tyler-perrys-if-loving-you-is-wrong but their use should be consistent. Our numbering here abruptly switches from one scheme to another in January 2018 with episode 74 "A Dame in Distress" http://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/1375182/tyler-perrys-if-loving-you-is-wrong-7x10-a-dame-in-distress. According to the original numbering scheme that is used at TVmaze up to this point, in which each "season" is half a year, this should be the beginning of season 8.

If each season is considered to run a full year, as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If%20Loving%20You%20Is%20Wrong%20(TV%20series) counts them, then this episode should be #4x10 in the middle of season 4..

If the seasons are counted according to the network's website http://www.oprah.com/app/if-loving-you-is-wrong-full-episodes.html, in which the first season lasts for two years from September 2014 to May 2016, then this episode should be #3x10 in the middle of season 3.

Regardless of which scheme you choose to use, the numbering needs to be fixed.

From what I could tell, it's not exactly as you saying. While there's not much information from OWN, two things are known: according to this press release, episode http://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/630130/tyler-perrys-if-loving-you-is-wrong-4x01-mortal-and-fifth is a season premiere, and according to this press release, episode http://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/1276935/tyler-perrys-if-loving-you-is-wrong-7x01-a-difficult-path is a season 3 premiere. With all that information one could conclude that our seasons 1-3 is actually season 1, 4-6 is season 2, and the rest of the episodes belongs to season 3.

However, this press release setting the timeframe of previous season as (9/13-11/29). Which means that our season 6 is indeed a separate season, and not the part of season 2.

So there's no discrepancy for this show even at it's source. Which means that whatever scheme we would chose, it would be wrong from some particular point of view :)

Honestly? Don't know :) This one definitely needs some research.

Too bad that the official site doesn't keep the episode guide beyond the current season.

What is misleading us is that they split each year into two half-seasons, and when they return from each hiatus, their press release proclaims it with hyperbole as "an all-new season" even though it never gives the season number. If you go by such press releases, there should now be eight seasons, not seven. To confirm that our episode 7x10 on January 10, 2018 was again billed as the start of a new season, view the promo on OWN's official YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi4bIMkhisc If you go by this, we are at the end of season 8.

But most of these promos and press releases never give an actual season number. In fact, the press release announcing the first episode of the "all-new season" on March 21, 2017 at http://www.oprah.com/own-iflovingyouiswrong/an-all-new-season-of-if-loving-you-is-wrong-returns-in-march actually gives all the info you need: "Season 2 Episode 212". Then September 2017, when they say it is the beginning of season 3. This agrees with how they actually number the episodes on the official site, where there have been only three seasons so far. We are at the end of season 3.

I also found this article, which confirms that our season 4 premiere is indeed belongs to season 1 http://www.oprah.com/own-iflovingyouiswrong/if-loving-you-is-wrong-returns-march-15-at-109c.

Considering all of the above, I thing the most logical would be to follow OWN's numeration, merging seasons 1-4 into season 1, 5-6 into season 2 and renaming season 7 to season 3.

If no objections from TPTB, I'll get to it later today.
