Cable News : Guest Star : Next Host Chit Chat

SilverSurfer wrote 7 years ago: 1

Quickie question ... tonight, as on numerous previous nights, Don Lemon appeared on Cuomo Prime Time near the end for a brief chit chat and preview of his up coming show (aprox 5 mins or less). I've noticed this on CNN, CBC News Network, Comedy Central and I'm sure other talk shows that follow one another on these and other networks.

My question is, "Does this rise to the level of a guest star credit?" Sometimes the appearances are very brief, no chat and just a quickie preview which would, IMO, not warrant a guest star credit. Other times the appearances are longer, with the hosts discussing current events being covered in addition to any promo bits. I could see an argument in these cases for a guest star credit. I see three possible answers ...

1. Never include them as guest stars.

B. Always include them as guest stars.

III. Leave it to whoever is updating the show to use their best judgement on a case by case basis.

I have no real feelings one way or another, if I had to pick/rank I'd probably choose III then 1 and finally B but I'm fine with any method TPTB want ... just wanted to toss it out and get a ruling.

It's basically just a promotion for a upcoming probram and should be ignored, imo.

That's the problem. Sometimes it is a short, almost commercial break like ad for the upcoming program but, at other times it goes longer and is like any other talking head on the show and then they do the quick next show promo at the end of the "segment". I don't mind ignoring them, but if it was anybody else but the next host they'd sometimes, IMO, rate guest star credits. ymmv
