Importing Myepisodes

grelber wrote 10 years ago: 1

Hi!

Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I came here from MyEpisodes and have list of almost 400 shows that I do want to add in "Following"

Is there a import function so I can import the list? And no I don't need to import "Seen" episodes :-)

/G

Hi Grelber,

Multiple people have requested an import tool. We're looking into it. Please stand by.

Importing isn't really the problem, the exporting is. If there was a way to get an export of all your data from myepisodes, we could (and would!) easily write an importer for it. But as far as I know, myepisodes doesn't provide this possibility and the owners are currently MIA. We're looking into the situation to see if we can help!

FYI, I've posted a way to export MyEpisodes data (using an external script) on their forums - see http://www.myepisodes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=87... and http://www.myepisodes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=87... . It needs a single fix to the script, but might be workable as a solution (the script isn't mine, but I believe the license is fairly permissive if someone wants to properly redistribute it in an easier and fixed form).

I hope it helps! (And I may need to see whether I can wipe my show setup here clean before importing - myepisodes is the only one that I really kept up to date)

Moved this thread to Chat, as it has nothing to do with the API. :)

The solution you linked to is interesting, but only a very small amount of users would be able to get it up and running. We don't use Ruby, so us running this on behalf of others is far from trivial either.

It's not the most straight forward approach, but let me say this. If someone were to create a hosted version of this tool where anyone can login with their myepisodes username & password to receive a CSV download, I would be happy to write an importer for that data.

If so, they should look into adding the tvrage ID for the show to the output. Matching on the name alone would be very unreliable for some shows.

We've been working on a tool to migrate your data from myepisodes to TVmaze. You'll have to enter your myepisodes username & password, after which all your favorite shows & watched episodes on myepisodes will be automatically added to your TVmaze account.

Great idea, manythanks.

How does it work ?

david wrote 10 years ago: 1

The tool is in beta right now. If you want to help us try it out, reply here and we'll get in contact ASAP :)

I am also a refugee from MyEpisodes. How do I find the preference (time zone?) so the episodes quit showing as airing a day too early? I'm on the bottom end of the planet and almost a day ahead of North America. I could have swore I set my time zone correctly at one point but I also recall some preference about air dates...but it could have been one of the other tv sites I visited before settling on this one. Thank you!

Yep, that's great. MyEpisodes is now using TVmaze as its data provider :)

Old post but still wanted to ask if the tool was made available for all (I managed to find the link for it but it doesn't work: https://www.tvmaze.com/migrate/myepisodes)

The importer stopped working when the owner of myepisodes shut down the tool being used to generate exports.

Even the topic talking about the export tool was deleted from myepisodes as to deter further conversation about the exporter.

You can ask the owner of myepisodes to put the tool back on. (won't happen)

Or wait for an answer from David or Jan

Either way, you can probably just start marking shows and episodes here while you wait for an answer.

Note that there is still a CSV export for VIP members of myepisodes ($2.50 monthly.) No idea if the old TVMaze tool (with username/password) used the same CSV exports though.

Personally I am also considering to make the full switch (got almost 10k eps watched there), I might just make my own Python script for it (but maybe in few months only - busy lol.) Simple CSV import obviously would be easier if possible (:

The script to import your status directly from myepisodes definitely isn't maintained anymore.

If you do have an export file from any other service, you might be able to import it into TVmaze. The file has to be in JSON format and needs to contain either a TVmaze id, TVDB id, or IMDB id for each marked show/episode. If anyone with the technical knowhow wants to work on this feel free to ask for more details and I'll help you out.

And of course you can always use the Premium API (free trial for the first two months) at https://static.tvmaze.com/apidoc/ to manually import marked episodes, follows and votes.

So I just finished moving my 8k eps watched from myepisodes to tvmaze :) Used this script to export myepisodes (had to fix/modify some code - to use old jsdom api, different view_epsbyshow URL and different TD class name.) Then I made own script for matching IDs / import (with TVmaze premium API.) My final script isn't "newbie friendly" but if a programmer ever needs some code/help to do the same transfer, just let me know in this topic.

Good job adapting the script in order to import your list. That would be quite a bit of work manually.

Feel free to share your script. I'm sure others would find it useful as well. odjo f.e :)
