More States Want to Tax YouTube TV, Hulu, Disney+, & More

Over the last few years, a handful of states and local governments have taxed streaming services. Chicago was one of the first to have a tax specifically targeting streaming services. States like Pennsylvania also pushed taxes targeting streaming services. While most states don’t charge a tax specifically targeting streaming services many have ruled that sales tax does apply to streaming services like Hulu.

I think we are closer to avoiding death than we are taxes. It's been floated in Canada a few times but public outcry has, so far, kept Netflix et al tax free ... reality says it's just a matter of time before the taxman cometh.

In Canada they will be lucky to get away with just having to collect taxes ... if our CRTC has it's way they will impose Canadian content rules on the streamers. Which to be fair isn't such a bad thing now we have such a robust TV/movie industry in the GTA, Vancouver and Montreal ... years ago Canadian content was, generally, awful! Just plain awful!

Why ? Like any company and regular people, it's only fair for them to pay taxes
