Getting Started guide for TV Maze?

JC wrote 3 years ago: 1

Hi there,

First post on the forum, just joined the TV Maze community.

Quick questions -

1. Are there any resources for people who just joined? Getting started guide, tutorials, etc.

2. I'm stuck! Basically I configured my settings the same way I did on my previous systems (I used locateTV for years and was extremely happy with it, then had to move to TV Browser which has become unreliable - so here I am on TV Maze) but am not getting my schedule. So clearly I am missing something:

-> I registered all my channels (subset from Freesat/Astra 28E and Astra 19E as well as Irish (IE/NI) terrestrial)

-> I registered the shows and actors I want to receive alerts for on TV Maze...

But then nothing seems to be happening. I have access to the EPG, Episode description etc. etc. but hasn't been getting any alerts and/or personalised schedules.

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

1. We don't have a user-guide, simply a description of each feature; https://www.tvmaze.com/features.

2. The schedule is not based off your followed networks; it is based off most popular networks + followed shows.

If you want to see all new episodes in followed networks, use the countdown feature.

When you say "I registered the shows and actors I want to receive alerts for on TV Maze... but ha[v]en't been getting any alerts and/or personalised schedules." You're mistaken; this is not a feature that we directly provide.

Instead, what we do provide are iCal & RSS feeds (though only the iCal is free for everyone) - https://www.tvmaze.com/dashboard/feeds - which you can add to your calendar/RSS program to give you alerts .

For your example scenario of getting episodes for all of your followed networks, you'd have to use the Countdown iCal or RSS (which is only available to Silver Premium users) - https://api.tvmaze.com/rss/countdown?token=[API Token]&source=networks&filter=all

Many thanks for the prompt reply @gazza911 - different approach to what I was used to but it makes sense. So this should be a simple(?) matter of setting up a new iCal calendar to catch this. Thanks again for the prompt reply.

The freely available iCal will only have your followed shows not every show from your followed networks.

However, other than that, yes, that's how you'd do it.
