"Skip/Hide/Ignore Episode" in watchlist

Johnford wrote 9 years ago: 1

Hey there, first of all, great website!

I've moved over from followmy.tv which is using TV Rage's database, and I am missing one function on this website, that shouldnt be hard to add :

The ability to "Skip" (or hide, or ignore, whatever you wanna call it) a specific episode on a show in your watch list, for example:

-I was out of the country for a week and didnt catch any episodes of my usual shows, I come home and catch up to my serialized show, but I will often not catch up to my usual talk shows (Daily Show, Colbert, etc...) therefore I would like to skip or hide those episodes from my watchlist, as I do not intend to watch those episodes, even though I want to be able to track future episodes!

-Other situation, I watched the first 3 seasons of American Horror Story in full, watched only the first 2 episodes of Freakshow and didnt feel the vibe so I have no intention to watch the remaining episodes, however I have watched episode 1 of the new season, Hotel, and want to track future episodes in my watchlist, but I don't want to see the episodes from season 4 that I skipped!

Hope I made it clear, and that this gets added at some point!

Thanks

Couldn't you just mark the episodes as watched, even though you haven't watched them, if you're intending to skip them? Or would this mess things up for you?

By going to a show's episode list, through the Watchlist > View All, you can easily mark episodes as watched in bulk by clicking on the arrows that appear if you hover to the right of the eye. By doing this on your latest "watched" episode, all previous ones are also marked as watched.

TVMaze really should add those arrows to the show's episode list also, not just through the Watchlist.

Would this solve anything for you?

I think that for some people it will solve the problem, but I can see that some other people would like to have an accurate representation of what they've watched and what not.
By skipping/hiding/ignoring certain episodes it would please the people that care about an accurate representation.
People who don't care about it, will just add it as watched.

I personally think it's definetely something to add, but I think there are more important things to implement at the moment :-)

I like this idea. I have a huge list of shows, but a lot of them i haven't seen for example the last 5 episodes of the last season, some of the episodes i don't want to see, or i want to follow show without having to mark previous episodes as watched to see the new episodes.

Oh and maybe a addition to the suggestion. When ignoring a episode (if it's possible) you should be able to add ignore for certain period or just add ignore until watched.

Well Andreas, that's what I've been doing, but as Michael says, if you're a stats nerd with a bit of OCD for example, that will not be satisfying enough and actually quite annoy you ahah.
Also some of these I might go back and watch later, so I still want them to be distinguishable from the ones I've actually watched.

I think adding these options is good for the website, then anyone can use then as they pleased. But I'd you don't have the option, well... This could be an even richer website.

Right now it is not possible to add those, but in the future it will be :)

it is so much to do right now.

cheers
Juan

This makes me think of the "mark as acquired" feature that has been requested earlier.

I think all of these different forms are mutually exclusive, right? As in: you would either mark an episode as ignored, or as acquired, or as watched; (any others?) but never simultaneously.

If so, the technical implementation would in fact be pretty easy. Don't get your hopes up too soon though, the UI part would probably still be quite some work.

Actually, I believe logically the ignore/hide would be used opposite of the acquired or watched status but episodes would have both acquired and watched, at least for me! I could see something being acquired and hidden too but that's probably an odd situation. The way I run my shows I would like to be nagged to GET certain shows but hide the watch part for the things i store and watch many months later.

Yeah simultaneously wouldnt make much sense I agree. Glad to know it would be easy to implement and that I will be considered!
I can deal with the current state of things while we wait!

Thanks for listening to the users!

I also moved over from followmy.tv and I'm also missing this a lot! Currently I haven't added any of my reality shows because I cant skip/ignore episodes!

For some shows I have skipped whole seasons but I intent to watch them at some point (i.e Survivor, several Got Talent shows). Some shows like X Factor, The Voice etc. I skip after the auditions stage and I'm not going to watch them till the new season starts but in both cases I don't want just to mark them as watched. In the first case I wont be able to track what I've watched and go back to what I haven't and in the second case it just wont be accurate and I don't like that either :)

Just would like to say that I also have moved over from followmy.tv and I liked the ability to see how many hours I watched and to ignore episodes in a show

You could vote for the option to skip/ignore/acquire here by just clicking follow. http://www.tvmaze.com/threads/475/implement-acquir...

The option of your time spent on watching shows can be found via 'Profile' -> Stats

Hi johnford,

It's now possible to mark episodes as watched/acquired/skipped from the calendar.
You can read more about it in this blog.

cheers,

Jan
