Question

Somi wrote a year ago: 0

Newbie here. If I post a pic to an episode from a reliable source, why is the pic replaced a few hours later? Is there some kind of seniority with postings with members who have been on this site for a while, that I'm unaware of?

Hi @Somi

Welcome to the contributors club. (and I mean it, it's not sarcasm :) )

It's probably because you didn't upload the highest resolution available, or the minimum requirement of 1280x720px (but I rarely use it - mostly 1920x1080px or 3840x2160px if available)

There is a guide on how to get the highest resolution from different network websites: https://www.tvmaze.com/faq/39/how-to-get-the-largest-available-images-from-different-websites

Also, if you didn't read our Data Policies https://www.tvmaze.com/faqs/9/data-policies you should consider reading it (it's a must for contributors)

If you don't find a know-how on a network in the guide or need some info, feel free to ask in the forum, or on the talk page.

Hi blackcat2021

I used the guide to get the largest images from different websites. I've been using 1280x720px when uploading pics. It just seemed strange that I posted episode names, summary and pics to "Gannibal" and a few hours later different pics are posted. I'm just trying to find out what I'm doing wrong, so I can make the corrections. Also noticed that the pics page was locked after the different pics were posted. Thanks for responding and would appreciate any feedback you can provide.

In this case, you uploaded a 1280x720px, @Nikquest uploaded a higher res 1920x960px (which is not 16:9 aspect ratio), then you uploaded again a 1280x720px.

Changes to the main pic are limited to normal contributors, that why you couldn't set back your last image as main.

Note: duplicates are not allowed, so I will delete the 2nd pic you uploaded. (also you can't proper with a lower res)

What you can do is proper Nikquest by uploading a 1920x1080px picture from https://www.hulu.com/series/gannibal-71a78f9b-14d5-47a9-8ceb-6192d2856c41
and request for the change for main episode picture in the forum (since you can't set it main)

(to do that > right click on the episode picture > inspect > copy the image link https://img2.hulu.com/user/v3/artwork/d1ae8d9d-d321-45e0-b7a0-af2a5748098b?base_image_bucket_name=image_manager&base_image=baf1073b-d4da-4f60-a05f-4bfc0864a87a&size=600x338&format=jpeg > replace 600x338 with 1920x1080 > upload the pic with the new link https://img2.hulu.com/user/v3/artwork/d1ae8d9d-d321-45e0-b7a0-af2a5748098b?base_image_bucket_name=image_manager&base_image=baf1073b-d4da-4f60-a05f-4bfc0864a87a&size=1920x1080&format=jpeg > request on the forum Edit Requests the change for episode https://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/2444565/gannibal-1x01-offering-of-flowers picture to the last picture (reason higher res))

I too have replaced a image you added to an episode of Ghosts a couple of weeks ago, which was small in size and not 16:9, thumbnail off Amazon possibly? Either way it was not the highest quality available my a mile.

blackcat2021 wrote a year ago: 1

Amazon provides 4:3 ratio episode pics... (Amazon wake up! We're in 2022 - 4:3 was decade(s) ago)
Not a reliable source for non-Amazon shows... and for their shows we crop the pics to 16:9.

My issue is not with Ghosts and what I posted weeks ago. RoseRed sent me a message and provided me with "How to get the largest images from different websites", when she saw what I posted weeks ago. I'm new to this site from ShareTV and just trying to learn how to do things the correct way. If you replaced an image that was too small weeks ago, I had not been contacted by you to make a correction or learn from my mistake. I'm still learning how this site functions. The info RoseRed sent me was very helpful and I have been using 1280X720px ever since. My issue is with the two pics I posted from "Gannibal." I just want to know why they were replaced. I used 1280X720px. For example, was 1280X720px too small or is Hulu not a reliable source to TVMaze. I can't learn if no one is willing to answer my questions. If you tell me what I did wrong, I can make the correction going forward. Thanks for listening. I hope did not say anything to offend.

Hey Somi, 1280x720 is perfectly acceptable per our policy; however, if the same image can be found at a higher quality/resolution that image will be used and the duplicate deleted.  Most current shows, you'll see 1920x1080 image size being used. Hope that helps and we all went through growing pains regarding image sizes.

Ok so 1280x720 (lower quality) is acceptable but 1920x1080 is preferred? The resolution quality of 3840x2160 was mentioned to me by blackcat2021 . Also all of these higher quality resolution images should be at a 16:9 aspect ratio?

Thank you blackcat2021 for telling me what I did wrong. I will try using a higher resolution and work on setting pic to 16:9 aspect ratio. I will not, as you say, proper @Nikquest, its not that serious for me. I just didn't realize that people on this site actually check posted pics resolution to one up each other. I appreciate you deleting my duplicate image, I didn't realize it was a duplicate. I assumed my pic was deleted. Thank you for taking the time with the above lesson of replacing 600x338 with 1920x1080, it was good practice for me. I will try to do better and not upload "not the highest quality by a mile."

Happy to help. When you create a new episode picture and post the upload URL of the picture, you will see the resolution under the thumbnail. That's how you can check the res. before you upload.
