December 17, 2025 shows

So, with the news coverage of Trump's address to the nation tonight... how should the shows/schedule for tonight be handled here? It's a bit of a weird one, because there are several season finales that were originally scheduled to run straight through the 9pm hour (such as The Floor and Survivor) that is now being split weirdly in half due to this...

As of almost 11am eastern time, here is what the updated schedule is looking like, courtesy of Gracenote and TitanTV (note that NBC is not included, as all of their programming besides Trump's address is rerun/nothing new):

-----

CBS:

8-9pm: Survivor "A Fever Dream" season 49, episode 13

9-9:22pm: CBS News: Presidential Address to the Nation

9:22-11:22pm: Survivor "A Fever Dream" season 49, episode 14

Main new issue here is "A Fever Dream" being split in half, where originally, it was a straight 180 minutes

-----

FOX:

8-9pm: The Floor "Fight to the Finish; The Winner is Crowned"

9-9:15pm: Presidential Address (TRUMP)

9:15-10:30pm: The Floor

It appears here that the episodes "Fight to the Finish" and "The Winner is Crowned" were originally going to go from one right into the next, but obviously that is no longer the case. Gracenote does not have their schedule for FOX update as of yet, so this is taken from TitanTV. Should be noted that Gracenote actually does list three separate episodes for the final episodes, two being the episodes separate ("Fight to the Finish" and "The Winner Is Crowned") and the other presumably being the originally-planned straight-through airing ("Fight to the Finish; The Winner Is Crowned")

-----

ABC:

8-9pm: iHeartRadio Jingle Ball 2025

9-9:22pm: Presidential Address to the Nation -- ABC News Special

9:22-10:23pm: iHeartRadio Jingle Ball 2025

10:23-11:22pm: 20/20 "Ride or Die"

This is probably the worst/hardest one to figure out unfortunately, because the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball 2025 is (as per usual) a two-hour special that is now weirdly being split in half, with Gracenote listing two different airings of it, with the second airing essentially being part 2 of it. Only thing I can think of aside from changing it into a split 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' separate episode listings is to add some sort of note to explain what happened regarding this.

Updated the times and added episodes to some - feel free to add a note for an explanation

@TomSouthwell @RoseRed @JuanArango @CosmicHowl @Irish316 (feel free to ping anyone else who may have thoughts/ideas/be interested in this)

-----------------

For those who don't know, another Address to the Nation occurred last night (April 1), interrupting both Survivor (part 1 - part 2) and The Masked Singer season finale (part 1 - part 2)

There have been two edit requests requesting both of those 2-parters be combined back together, despite the Address occurring. How should this be getting handled?...

-----------------

In my opinion, as noted via the data policies (for reference, the April 1 Address to the Nation was around 20 minutes long):

if an episode starts earlier or later than announced this should not be taken into consideration, unless the deviation from the schedule is more than 15 minutes.

Also noting that CBS put out this programming advisory regarding the revised schedule. Additionally, via The Futon Critic, listings for both Survivor and The Masked Singer were adjusted accordingly due to the Address to the Nation (note the deleted listings here and here). Can also confirm first-hand from watching The Masked Singer that that show resumed at 9:21pm ET.

And if it's decided to go ahead a merge these 2 parts back up, shouldn't the Address 'episodes' on the special reports (CBS, ABC, NBC) be deleted as well? Otherwise, the schedule page will just end up with multiple errors due to overlappings of the shows and the special reports.

I agree that if an episode is split and airing in two segments because of something like that then it makes sense to list them like that as otherwise they schedule would be incorrect. I get that for some people it might be an issue because of numbering since we cant have episode 6A and episode 6B but i think its more important to list things correctly according to the actual schedule.

NathanDrake83 wrote 28 days ago: 1

Agree, split and a note added on the episode should be enough. People will complain in any case :)

astrohip wrote 22 days ago: 1

The issue with making them two episodes is it no longer aligns with CBS. I don't think "a note" is enough. Viewers, and users of TVMaze, will think they are on the wrong episode each week, thru the end of the season. I vote that TVMaze match the network.

i would say a rewrite of the policy is needed here, the schedule is not interesting anymore ater a few days but the episode numbers are forever.

Please yes!

The problem I'd personally say is that these interruptions did occur. If we're just going to strictly go by the networks' episode numbering and completely ignore any sort of interruptions like these, then shouldn't said interruptions just be deleted from TVMaze in that case? Factually though, it would be wildly inaccurate to say the episode(s) aired without any interruptions.

A) Saying an episode started at 8pm and ran 120 minutes (2 hours) would be inaccurate, as the Address to the Nation bumped the networks' schedules around 20 minutes.

B) Extending the runtime of the episodes in accordance to when they actually ended would be inaccurate as well, as then it would give the episodes' runtimes longer than the 120 minutes/2 hours they actually are.

And if we're really going to be that strict about the episode numbering in accordance with how they are listed on the networks' websites, then shouldn't any TV data/schedules be removed entirely from the website as a whole? Because for example, with The Masked Singer, if we need to follow what the FOX website lists, the typical episodes are listed as 43 minutes long, as that is how they are viewable on the site without the TV ads/airtimes.

TL;DR we shouldn't go around cherry-picking what data should be accurately listed in accordance to its TV airing and what should not be listed accurately. Otherwise, we're just getting a mish-mosh of data.

These days more people will watch via streaming services, will have DVR'd it, or will see it in reruns/syndication and very few people will care that the interruption happened afterward.
