PBS YouTube series "Eons"

I'm curious why episodes here (and on TheTVDB.com) have different, sometimes vastly different titles than on the show's YouTube page. What is the primary authority for titling episode of a series such as this? Is it not the actual content creators' YouTube page? It seems to be simply that it is whatever the first contributor decides to make up for a title.

For example, this video episode - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zfv8b4R9GuI - is titled, "How the Tibetan Plateau Created the Ultimate Cat" on PBS' YouTube page.

But on here (and TheTVDB.com) it is titled, "How A Geological Event Created The Ultimate Cat" - https://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/3667244/eons-2026-07-07-how-a-geological-event-created-the-ultimate-cat

Is there a valid reason why the episodes are not and can not be titled as they are on the show's YouTube page? Surely the show's creators know better than anyone else what they wanted the title to be.

The episode names on YouTube are probably different than when they were aired on PBS. We use the original names. 

OK, thanks. Got it and that would be the case for the episode I mentioned previously. PBS.org does call Season 8 Episode 21, "How A Geological Event Created The Ultimate Cat", https://www.pbs.org/video/how-a-geological-event-created-the-ultimate-cat-lx2o5b/ which matches the title on TVMaze. That one is only different on the Eons YouTube channel.

On the other hand, take this other episode:

On PBS.org, the episode is titled, "Why The Giraffe Got Its Neck".

On here, it's titled, "We've Had The Giraffe's Neck All Wrong". https://www.tvmaze.com/episodes/3174903/eons-2023-08-01-weve-had-the-giraffes-neck-all-wrong

If I understand what you are saying, if PBS.org or the Eons YouTube channel had originally listed it as "We've Had The Giraffe's Neck All Wrong" and later changed it to "Why The Giraffe Got Its Neck", it will always remain the former title on TVMaze simply because it was the original name? Isn't it kind of silly to refuse to update the changes? People will never be able to find the episode by its current episode name. Plus, how do you verify what the original name was if no traces of it remain? If the original name had to be "We've Had The Giraffe's Neck All Wrong" because that's its name on TVMaze, that awfully circular reasoning.

Furthermore, on PBS.org, this is listed as episode S06E01; on here (and TheTVDB), this is listed as episode S2023E15.

Does episode ordering also follow the same rules of using the "original names"? So that if PBS never released/produced a show as "Season X, Episode Y" it simply gets a sequential episode number and calendar year for the season. Don't get me wrong, I think "Season X, Episode Y" numbering is incredibly stupid when using airdates as season/episode work without any potential argument, but I just want to understand.

If the episode was titled differently the first time it aired, we use that name even if PBS decided to call it something else when they put it online. Or the source could have been wrong, of course. 

As for using year numbering, maybe it was originally imported that way, or @RoseRed had a specific reason to do it that way.
