Set main image per actor on Character pages

There are many shows that, for whatever reason, recast some characters over time. However, the way character galleries currently function makes it so that only the picture set as main image shows up at the show cast and episode cast levels, regardless of who is playing the character at any given time.

If that can be done, a great way to prevent the picture of actor X to show up on an episode where the character is played by actor Y would be to have a drop-down menu to select which actor is shown at the "set as main image" level on the character gallery pages (something similar to the Poster/Banner thing on show gallery pages). It would prevent having different people's names associated with the same picture and reduce the risk of users creating separate entries for the same character solely based on recasts.

This is a reasonable idea but I think this is alot of work to program, but we will see what david says about this :D

As I've noted in the past, you also have the "problem" that a character with dual identities, you only see an image of one of the identities but not the other.

Case in point: Adam West on Batman.

There's not really much you can do about it.

That would be a bit more difficult to show the both images, as you would have 2 appearances then...

But implementing it on the Character level seems indeed a good idea I think :-)

Okay, not to derail, but I'm still fresh on this whole character thing. Am I to understand that a character profile can list multiple actors who have played the same character in a series instead of being separate profiles?

Yes, once the character has been created, simply select its name from the autocomplete list instead of "create new" when adding a different actor playing the same role to the show/episode cast.

Okay, that helps on a certain issue on a show I knew that could make that problematic (though there's still a significant issue I'll have to deal with when I get to it), but I mainly asked because there's one show that has two profiles created because he was played by two different actors. I sincerely couldn't find another example, so it bugged me. Now I know. Thanks for clearing that up.

Although it is fitting that I find out through this thread, given the subject since this character has two distinct appearances that's the result of more than just recasting. But that's a bridge I'll cross later.
