I think that every contributor should have the ability to delete/re-upload images, that was added by him/her. So if better quality of the same image is found, it won't litter the gallery with several copies.

+1 for this feature. Ideally the option to remove your own contributed images. Then you can always re-upload a better one.
You can always add the better quality image to the gallery.
And then ask a TC to remove the lesser quality one.
But being able to delete your own uploads is indeed something that would be a nice feature I think :-)
