Space's Deepest Secrets, "Pluto's Strange Secrets"

Sam-I-Am,

I certainly glad someone else seems to like Space's Deepest Secrets.

The episode "Pluto's Strange Secrets" that you entered as a Special was hard for me to determine if Special or regular episode for Season 5. It aired on Saturday, Oct. 13 along with another Special "NASA's Greatest Discoveries" and two days before the normal Monday where Season 5 started with "Dark Origins of the Moon".

But now the Science Channel made it Episode 10 of Season 4 here: https://www.sciencechannel.com/tv-shows/spaces-deepest-secrets/full-episodes/plutos-strange-secrets.

You created the entry and I didn't want to just change it without giving you the option to do so first. Let me know.

Thanks,

Joe

Thanks for letting me know! I've updated it into the regular season. Unless I missed it before on the Science Channel page, I couldn't find it and due to the unusual air date, I threw it in as a special rather than omitting it.

I do enjoy the show. Even if some might dismiss it as "fluffy" science, it's still science and better than most of the various reality and other garbage on TV these days, especially on channels that were informative in the past. (I'm looking at you, TLC & History!!! /end rant) I also particularly enjoy "How the Universe Works" on Science Channel and "NOVA" on PBS.

Do you have any insight into why the Science Channel website is missing about 7 episodes from Season 1? Sometimes I like to go back and view all or part of an episode rather than wait for random reruns, so I'm puzzled as to why they aren't available.

Thanks again for the fact check, and I've updated the episode.

Cheers!

Sam

Hey Sam,

Sorry for the delay. I too enjoy "NOVA" and "How the Universe Works" in addition to "Space's Deepest Secrets." Interesting term "fluffy" science - it certainly can apply to various series as they try to be popular or modern. As you are probably aware, like PBS, Smithsonian and National Geographic Channels also have generally great programming. I try to be (and watch shows as) a "skeptical optimist." I found the term somewhere and liked it.

I don't know why the Science Channel doesn't provide all episodes. Episodes 4-6 are also missing from Season 4. If you use Cable TV with an On Demand service, some episodes remain there for quite some time. The offering is still incomplete. The website https://www.sciencechannel.com is only a few years old I think. That may factor in somehow.

To list the correct episodes in a summary of a Special, viewing them is also important. More recent episodes usually don't give the episode title in the opening credits which makes the process more complicated. The Science Channel, like other channels in the Discovery family, has a bad habit of airing "New" episodes when they are simply retitled and have a different summary. That's true for hour episodes and mashup Specials. I found one Special reaired twice each with a different title. Let me know if you find a mistake I've made in a summary or comment.

Thanks.

Joe
