Ratings Roundup Week of March 5 2017

Saturday ratings numbers finally posted. Ransom (CBS) was the only scripted program to air a new episode; it finished with a 0.4 rating and 2.5 million viewers. 48 Hours (also CBS) had a 0.7 rating and 4.5 million viewers. NBA Basketball on NBC finished with a 0.7 rating and 2.2 million viewers.

2017 will go down as the year of the time travel show! Did Legends of Tomorrow start the trend? NBC opened the season with Timeless, now ABC and FOX have jumped aboard time machines with Time After Time and Making History respectively. While Timeless did OK in the ratings wars, neither Time After Time nor Making History opened very strong. What was your favorite of the three? Or do you prefer the granddaddy of all time travel shows, Doctor Who?

The CW announced Friday afternoon both The 100 and Riverdale are renewed for the 2017-18 season, thus every currently airing program knows its fate. The network does have two more shows to premiere: The Originals starts March 17 and iZombie will start next month. The Vampire Diaries ended its eight year run with the finale for the series earning its best ratings for the year.

FOX premiered two new shows this week. Making History and Kicking and Screaming. Neither had very good opening numbers, though Making History could squeak a second season if it can improve. Kicking and Screaming only has an eight episode order and it probably won't see any more episodes once it's done in May.

NBC premiered it's variety show Little Big Shots to a healthy opening while This is Us and The Voice continued to bring in high numbers for the Peacock Network. Chicago Justice finally settled into its Tuesday slot after bouncing all over the schedule for a week. It started well and should get a second series order. Shades of Blue opened its second season OK, but it will need to at least hold where it is, or cancellation is in its future. The Blacklist: Redemption, however, sank back to it's opening numbers and will probably be pink-slipped by May. Powerless has also tumbled, enjoy the episodes remaining as chances are it's done as well.

The Eye opened March with a new seasons of Survivor and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. Both shows had low premiere numbers, in the case of Survivor its lowest premiere to date. Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders will need to bounce up a little bit if it wants to see a third season. Fans of Training Day should savor what's left. CBS announced late Friday the show would run out it's last episodes on Saturday night alongside another doomed CBS show, Ransom.

Two new scripted shows premiered for ABC this week, and neither will be long for the network world. Both The Catch and Time After Time started with low numbers and will likely be canceled by May. People Icons also premiered low and don't expect any more of this collaboration after it's four episode run.
