NBC is about to feast on sports ratings in February. The Super Bowl should provide monster numbers for the network and execs hope for something similar with the Olympics. Ellen's Game of Games turned out a big hit for the Peacock Network and was renewed after its short run. Fans of The Brave, Taken, and Great News should brace now for bad news, none of them have performed as expected. Blindspot fans should be better off as the program is in season three, so a season four is pretty much expected.

ABC had a quiet week last week. Grey's Anatomy once again took the top spot with fellow doctor drama, The Good Doctor only a little behind. Both shows should see easy renewals later this spring. The Wednesday comedy block also continued to do well, The Goldbergs and Modern Family are already renewed, and American Housewife should be renewed as well. ABC may be out of the superhero game after this season. Marvel's Inhumans is already done and Agents of SHIELD won't be far behind.

Without new episodes of The Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon, NCIS took not only the number one drama spot for CBS, but was also king of the ratings chart for the Eye. Love it or hate it, NCIS (and all of its spin offs) will be around for at least a few more years. The network also tried to cash in some early Grammys ratings with a rerun of a Bruno Mars special. The plan backfired however, as the special garnered less interest than usual time slot holder, MacGyver. (The Grammys itself was also a ratings bust, but that's a different article.) SWAT was used for schedule plugging a couple of times last week, not sure if that means the network loves the show, or if they're trying to find it an audience.

Even though the numbers were down from last year, the NFC Championship game brought a huge boost to FOX last week. The Resident benefited from the built-in audience, however the program's numbers in its usual time slot were less than half its premiere. Not a good start, but the show may yet recover. 9-1-1 was quickly renewed for a second season based off its premiere numbers and the ratings seem to prove it was the right choice. LA to Vegas slipped into the danger zone, and fans may want to prepare for some bad news in a few months.

The CW seems to be the only network that can make superheros work. Black Lightning lost a bit from its premiere, but remained a strong show for the network tied for second place with Supernatural behind The Flash. Arrow had another tough week last week as its numbers slipped a tenth from the usual. Valor fans have one episode left, then the show is most likely done. Fans are justified in their displeasure as Dynasty is still losing viewers while the US Army pilots have maintained a steady viewership; a low one granted, but still better than Dynasty.

Olympics coverage will start in a few weeks, expect most networks to air repeats and not burn new episodes against NBC. March should see the spring premieres for any new or returning network shows that haven't started yet.

It is weird that you can tell which shows are made by Warner and which by CBS. The CBS shows are always at the bottom, and consistently so. Not sure if it's production value, content, or what, but CW viewers, just don't like CBS stuff. Valor did not get any sort of episode extension from the network, so don't expect anything more than the initial thirteen episodes. Ironically, Dynasty did get the extended order, and will probably be canceled as well. There's not enough fast-talking in the world to justify spending more money on a show that's sinking ever closer to 500,000 total viewers or less.
I love Valor.. don't get why that show doesn't do better... !? I would love a second season to see where the relationship between Gallo and Madani goes from here !
