ABC had solid back-to-back nights of American Idol last week. The Sunday outing was up a tenth from the previous week, while the Monday edition scored a gain of two tenths. The Good Doctor returned after a week off, up a tenth. The Rookie was steady. Station 19 lost two tenths, it's in no danger. The Conners lost a tenth, nothing to worry about there, either. For Life and Stumptown continue to be the cellar dwellers for the network. In other circumstances, both shows would be playing out the side and would quietly disappear. With pilot season up in the air, one or both may score a reprieve long enough to plug some schedule holes next season.

CBS saw gains for most of its programs last week. NCIS roared back after a week off, picking up three tenths and three million viewers over its last new episode. They say go out on a high note, and Hawaii Five-0 is taking that to heart, posting some of its best numbers, up two tenths from its last episode. NCIS: Los Angeles was up two tenths, NCIS New Orleans gained a tenth. SEAL Team was steady. SWAT lost a tenth, but even as the lowest-rated drama on the network, its in no danger. Fall schedule issues aside, the show is in its third season, season four is a lock.

NBC premiered Council of Dads last week. Unlike just about every other freshman show on the network, the new drama actually scored a decent opening. Time will tell if it can hold those numbers. This Is Us gained three tenths last week. Chicago Med picked up a tenth. Chicago Fire and PD were even. It should be noted at a time when networks are trying to eek out the remaining new episodes they have that the Peacock ran back-to-back episodes of Indebted. Not a good sign. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist is also likely done.

The CW had no surprises last week. With The Flash running a repeat, Supernatural took the top spot and was the only show to garner one million viewers. A repeat of Penn & Teller wasn't far behind. Roswell, New Mexico picked up one hundred thousand viewers from its premiere. Dynasty, however, hit a new low, barely finding three hundred thousand viewers with its first new episode in weeks.

More reruns and "specials" are likely in the works in the coming weeks as networks try to stretch out the remaining new episodes they have for shows. What are you watching?
