Attn all migrating LocateTV users - importer status

Jan wrote 7 years ago: 1

Hi everyone,

We are getting some people asking the same question: 'Where is the importer?'
Short answer: We are currently working on it.

If you want to know what's going on read below:

Around March-April we spoke with the staff of LocateTV about TVmaze providing alternative tools to migrating users.

However we didn't hear from LocateTV until just a couple of days ago. We didn't get a heads up on when users would be contacted or how the format of the export would look like.

Thus... we didn't have the chance to actually prepare an import tool and have only now started to look at the logistics of it all.

We'll give you guys more info asap in regards to the progression of the importer. 'Follow this thread to receive notifications about the importer'
So, hang in there and take the time to get to know TVmaze and everyone in it a little better.

best regards and thanks for your patience,

Jan

UPDATE: The LocateTV importer is now available on http://www.tvmaze.com/migrate/locatetv

where do I pull up my local tv listings?

LesleyTozer wrote 7 years ago: 1

That's just what I have asked but in a different section.

TomSouthwell wrote 7 years ago: 1

Currently we don't support personalised schedules or alternate airdates, however both features are up for suggestion here;

http://www.tvmaze.com/threads/238/customizable-schedule-page

http://www.tvmaze.com/threads/128/support-for-premiere-airdates-in-different-countries

if you like the threads in questions, the team here are working on implementing the list. In theory, the more popular a pending feature is, the quicker it should be implemented. But please do bear in mind the team here is fairly small and doing this alongside working other jobs at the same time.

How do I set up my picks. Thanks Norann.

david wrote 7 years ago: 1

We've been working on a tool that'll allow you to to import your LocateTV picks. We don't have a lot of example LocateTV exports available here, so it hasn't been tested very well yet. I'd love it if some people can try it out and leave your feedback here!

Unfortunately episode data isn't included in the LocateTV export file, so for now the only thing we can import is your shows.

To get started, visit: http://www.tvmaze.com/migrate/locatetv

For clarification, we've asked about this to the guys at LocateTV. Hopefully exports with the episode data will be provided.
Once there is more news we'll let everyone know about how things are progressing.

tried the tool, was straightforward and easy. unfortunately about two thirds of the shows on my watchlist aren't on the tvmaze database, but that's not surprising as it's a pretty specialised list focusing on british documentaries. all the popular shows came through fine, many thanks. and great to know I can rerun the file at a later date in case there are more added.

Hiya Mat, sent you a PM regarding the missing shows

How do I get my locatetv data export file?

david wrote 7 years ago: 1

You're supposed to have received it via the email address you were using on LocateTV.

Brian wrote 7 years ago: 1

From LocateTV? They never did send one. Why would they?

gazza911 wrote 7 years ago: 1

...Because they have the files.

Unlike the Followmy.TV migration (which asks for your username & password), TVMaze doesn't have a direct integration with LocateTV; you download the file that LocateTV should have sent via email and then import/upload it to TVMaze here.

NOTE: I don't think the followmy.tv importer works anymore, I just used it as an example.

Hi gazza, Correct. The followmytv importers stopped working after followmytv made some modifications. We are no longer keeping the followmytv importer up to date. We'll put down it down to avoid any confusion.

@Brian : Have you checked your spam folder? There were some users where the mail ended up going there.

Well obviously they do, but again why would they send them out, except to people that asked them to? And why didn't I get one?

The staff at TVmaze were led to believe that all LocateTV users were sent the email containing the file, even if they hadn't asked for it. We can't answer why you haven't got it, as I don't believe the site is active anymore, or that any of the ex-staff over there would appreciate been contacted for one user missing an email that many more have obviously gotten.

I never asked and yet I received one. I didn't even know they were closing down until the email arrived. If it helps in searching your spam folders etc the subject heading was "A Last Gift from LocateTV" and it opened by saying "As a parting gift from LocateTV, we have attached to this email a JSON file containing your complete personal My Picks data. This file can be uploaded to a selection of TV sites including TVMaze.com meaning the quick and easy transfer of your fave TV shows to their new home."
