With 'Ghost Adventures' back for a new episode tonight -- it means more 'Ghost Adventures' Scripps/Discovery episode numbering fun.

Previously the episode that aired tonight was entered as belonging to the existing season 17. User 'l0s3r' has changed that today to belonging to new season 18. I'm not even saying that's wrong - but there is discrepancy between various sources as to whether or not it is. Note this same user simply blanked out 9 entries over at TVDB today for this series - which was an unfortunate thing to do as it will likely cause the show to become locked from further editing over there. The user has added new episodes to season 18 also and has moved episodes previously in regular episodes to specials. (episodes that I posted about that tnt weighed in upon back in January).

The source of the potential confusion: The host of this just-awful-program has tweeted earlier this week as well as today that this is a new season. Unfortunately, his own network doesn't reflect that. The 'Ghost Adventues' twitter posts simply refer to it as a new episode (not a season premiere) - but they also did retweet Bagan's 'season premiere' tweet. Travel Channel still has the episode belonging to the previous season. If you look at TV Listings sites, they have it as belonging to the previous season also. To be fair - the shows's website often re-writes history regarding episode numbers. The last time I posted about this program, they had episodes airing in season 17 ... but there was no season 16 on the site. Seasons just jumped from 15 to 17. The website has since renumbered some episodes - putting some episodes together in at least a somewhat logical order ... and hey, there's even a season 16 now. :-) Of course - the website season numbering (after the re-numbering) don't match up with even listings sites (or any tv database site anymore) - but at least agree with other sources for when the next season premieres (as well as agrees with futon's numbering).

So we have tonight's (Saturday, 2/23) episode that the host is calling a new season ... the Travel Channel website calls an old season ... and zap2it calls an old season also. (So does Futon, if it matters). Both Travel Channel, Zap2it, and Futon have next Saturday's episode as belonging to the previous season (Futon calling it a season finale) - with the new season's 1st episode being listed by Zap2it, Travel Channel, and Futon as being the episode airing March 9th as the first episode of the 'new season'.

I get that logically it makes little sense that after a broadcasting break - the first 2 episodes aired weekly are from the previous season, while the 3rd episode is a 'new' season ... but ... that's what the sites say. So I understand why the user has made the changes in both databases as the show host Zak Bagans has it as a new season premiere. On an aside - theScene has it as a season premiere also (for what it's worth).

So -- how to proceed? I don't much care either way ... but thought it should be posted so a policy decision can be made for future reference. By the way -- we're in for a rough March, I'm afraid, with this series. Travel Channel now has a 'new' season 18 listed where they are once again taking 2 previous episodes and 'mashing' them up to make a 'new' episode. That should be fun to sort out starting middle of March. :-)

So -- leave the entries as they are? Make the entries match up to the show website listings (at least as they are today)?

On a side note: This is just a fantastically stupid program. Unfortunately, my wife is a huge fan of these 'Ghost' shows ... with 'Ghost Adventures' being tops on that list. (About 3 years ago, she actually drove 5 hours to a weekend convention at a casino so she could meet and get a picture with the Ghost Adventures cast. I declined to accompany her on that trip). So -- because my wife expects this program to be available in Plex ready to watch every Sunday morning -- I have to be well-versed in this program and when new episodes are airing. Hence -- my familiarity with it's airings. If the wife is happy ... it's just better for everybody. :-)

Well, I seriously do not know what we should do here, an official tweet vs the official site listings, maybe we wait a bit and see what happens on the official site and on the other press release sites?

If it helps make some kind of go-forward decision: The official show website and the official 'watch' episodes site don't agree either. The show website has last night's episode as belonging to the previous season. The 'watch' website has the episode as belonging to a new season.

Sidenote: As expected - the user who edited the episodes here's actions over at the other database has indeed caused the series to be locked. Simply deleting entries without discussion is always a bad choice. :-(

So it seems everything is contradicting everything :(

As your wife is familiar with the show, what does she say would be more logical to do?

She thinks it should be a new season --- but she also has a pretty unhealthy interest in Zak Bagans. I suspect due to the fact that the poor guy can't seem to find T-shirts in the correct size and has to wear them 1 size too small on camera. :-)

If Zak says it's a new season on her Twitter feed, it's freakin' gospel to her. :-)

(Unrelated: Don't even get me started on her fascination with 'Dr Chris: Pet Vet' -- where apparently there is a law in Australia that while treating animals you have to wear tight tank-tops. Thank goodness no episode problems there.)

Just an update: The user who changed the listings (and zero'ed the entries over at the other database) has chimed in on a thread I wrote over there. Basically - he is using the show website as a determinant for whether something is a special or not -- but using the 'watch' website to determine season ordering. I'm leaning towards the 'watch' website myself as an authority as it makes the most logical sense. I'm not a fan (nor would advocate) that we use one website for one decision ... but another for a different decision. The 'watch' website doesn't classify McPike Mansion or Mineral Springs as specials, but as regular episodes (as user ifixdit entered them initially, but changed by l0s3r near the end of January).

So either we use one website for regular/special and season decisions or another - which in either case would involve possibly moving some episodes back.

The show website matches what listings sites and futon has (but is likely production ordering as the user has pointed out). The 'watch' website doesn't classify specials like the production sites do -- but in the long run probably makes more logical sense.
