Ghost Hunters returns with more paranormal shows on A&E

Someone beat me to this but I added the new URL & summary for 'Ghost Hunters'.

I'm not sure if this will stand though ... this may have to be classed as a new show. We may have to wait till it airs to be sure but if it is no longer TAPS, a different network, a different production company and different cast I'd say it's a new show not a continuation.

That is why I didn't want to make the edits myself and was hoping that someone a little higher up the ladder would review it and make the changes. It doesn't matter to me where they are listed, I'm just happy that 'Ghost Hunters' is back!

And if Grant left the original Ghost Hunters because he simply wanted more time for “other aspects of [his] personal life.” (stolen from here: https://ghosts101.com/why-grant-wilson-left-ghost-hunters/), which is what they alluded to on the show, why is he back on the original series when Jason is making a new show? Just seems a little odd to me, like maybe they had a different view about which way things should go forward with the show (and TAPS?).

Ya, this does seem odd. It appears the "new" Ghost Hunters, with Grant, is the same production company since A&E has also acquired the rights to the original run episodes as part of the deal but Jason & TAPS have gone their own way with a new show ... sounds like Mom & Dad got a divorce and they're not telling us kids what's the real story :(

They are saying that the new shows are "8 all new episodes", but listing them as Season 1? So I'm not sure how to go about this one.

EDIT: I guess that they are calling it an "All New Series" so a new show should be created for it.

Checking back on this. Network has it listed (and is supplying metadata to listings providers) as a new show. (While rebranding their reruns of the previous episodes as 'Ghost Hunters Classic'). On the other hand - it does have an original cast member in it and is titled the same. So new show? Or new season for existing show?

I was wondering about that myself. They did restart numbering them as season 1 so maybe the original one should be renamed 'Ghost Hunters Classic' and the new one just 'Ghost Hunters' now?

We do not change season or episode numbers if a network decides to change it years after the premiere, we always stick to the first numbering. Same with show names :)

We do not need to rename the old series (Ghost Hunters Classic could be added as AKA though), however the new one should be separated into it's own entry. They did restart the numbering, also the press release mentions it being a reboot: The series reboot has been greenlit for 20 episodes. Per policy those two facts does not allow it to be considered as a continuation.

The listing for the new Ghost Hunters is still broken. IMDB and TheTVDB list it as a continuation of the original series (as season 12). TheTVDB has it as series id 77949 (https://www.thetvdb.com/series/ghost-hunters). When you run this: http://api.tvmaze.com/search/shows?q=Ghost%20Hunters the data in the externals section is missing for the "new" series, but exists for the old one. This is causing the new series to not show up in Omni at all (the old one shows up, but only has season 11).

Could we get the externals section of the new series filled out (or fix the old series to reflect what thetvdb and imdb show)?

Because IMDb and TheTVDB lists it as a continuation, their id's cannot be added to the externals of another show as that would be a duplicate in the TVmaze database.

The reason it is listed as two separate shows here, is because the official site (A&E) is listing the currently airing episodes as season 1, see:

And TVmaze follows the official sites, not what users has decided to add on other third-party databases.

ID is added for a time being, however it most definitely will be deleted from TVDb as a duplicate. You'd better raise this question at their forums proactively, to split the old and new series.

I've reached out to them on twitter, but I can hit the forums as well.
