The first non-special episode in a season should always be numbered "1"

and how do I convince you?

1) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legends_of_Tomorrow_(season_5)#Episodes

2) https://www.tvtime.com/en/show/295760/episode/7287661

3) https://thetvdb.com/series/dcs-legends-of-tomorrow/seasons/official/5

Not enough ?

Those are all unofficial sources, we never give an episode the number "0". That is our policy.

The only thing that we would do is list it as a special, like wiki did, but we will need an official source for that.

For what it's worth, CW's website says 501 starts on the 22nd... and the official press releases say the season premiere is January 22nd.

Next Episode Available 1.22.20
Meet The Legends (Ep. 501)

Fifth Season of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” Premieres Tuesday, January 21 at 9pm
DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW officially kicks-off its fifth season on Tuesday, January 21 (9:00-10:00pm ET/PT), following an original episode of ARROW (8:00-9:00pm ET/PT).

I also read multiple places calling the episodes before Crisis  the midseason finales for Supergirl, Batwoman and The Flash almost like Crisis was a special for all shows but I'm not sure how to interpret that...

This is definitely a proof that it is NOT 5.01, so according to our policy we will list it as a special, thank you :)

While I support the decision, I don't fully agree with that. Having 4 parts of Crisis as regular episodes and one part as a special doesn't seem logical. When CW airing something special, they announce it accordingly, for example https://i.imgur.com/bcpTkJt.png. The episode was aired in the show's regular timeslot, and it's events have an impact on further storyline. You can't just skip it and didn't miss anything.

Well, what are you suggesting then ? :)

There seems to be no solution. Policy forbids to list it as 5.00, if we list it as 5.01, we are off by one number to all official sources. I know this is a very weird situation but I do not have any other solution.

I have no solution either :D Both options have pros and cons, but having it as a regular episode seems less weird. All crossovers in the Arrowverse never were considered as specials (and were never called as such by the network).

And BTW, those numbers (501) are actually production codes, and crossover have code 508. So it's easily could be considered a regular episode, just aired out of production order https://i.imgur.com/TTTyB2K.png

Either put it to the vote, or decide between heads/admins, which way it should be listed :) Don't forget to explain the decision in the edit wiki ;)

I think listing it as a regular episode would be less confusing.

For what it's worth Hulu is listing Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Five as 5x01 and Meet the Legends as S5E2.

I haven't read all the material so don't have an opinion on final decision but it also strikes me as very odd to have 4 series list the crossover as regular episodes and one as a special. Also, playing devils advocate, the phrase "officially kicks-off" could be interpreted as the previous show was "unofficially" the first of season five. The first being a crossover but the next being the "official" start of their season proper and their own story lines.

It's just another example of the networks coming here, reading the rules, and figuring out a way to give us a hard time. :/

I would consider IMDB as a more official source than the CW network who are only airing the episode on behalf of the creators/producers of the show.

LOOOOL. That's the most hilarious thing I've heard lately ))))))
Are you aware that IMDb is a community maintained site where anyone can add/edit the data? It's basically wiki with blackjack and hookers.

Anyways, TVmaze policy have a list of valid sources, in order of their preference https://www.tvmaze.com/faq/15/episodes. Any other sources, especially community maintained like IMDb, TVDb, wiki, fansites etc. does not considered trustworthy because their data could change at any time.

Yesterday TVDb had Crisis part V as a special, today they have it as episode 5x01. What's it gonna be tomorrow? Year later?

Nothing wrong with being off by 1 with official sources.

Agree that Crisis should be listed as episode 1, as it truly is, despite the confusion The CW made with their handling of this episode.

Besides Hulu as already mentioned, Netflix outside of the U.S. lists it as episode 1. This confusion from The CW will disappear when the season is over, leaving all available sources to watch it showing it as episode 1. Which will just lead to someone eventually down the line "correcting it" to 1 anyway because there'll be no sources left claiming it's not.

(And as also mentioned, it makes no sense that the first four parts of Crisis are considered episodes for their respective shows, but not the final part of Crisis for Legends.)
