NBC premiered St Denis Medical last week to good numbers. The test will be how much of its premiere audience it holds onto, but assuming it doesn't lose much, the show could be a hit. Brilliant Minds returned after a week off, even with its viewers from its last new episode. The Irrational was also back, losing one hundred thousand viewers. Found was even, though low. Happy's Place earned a three-episode pick-up last week, bringing its season one total to sixteen. Somehow, Lopez vs Lopez also picked up an additional three episodes. If St Denis Medical proves to be a ratings winner, the future may not be very bright for the George Lopez-led series.

ABC wrapped the first season of The Golden Bachelorette with good numbers. The finale pulled in an additional six hundred thousand viewers over the previous week. The dating show did well enough in its freshman season that it is likely to be renewed. After filling the Monday night schedule with High Potential repeats, the freshman drama returned to its regular Tuesday night after a week off, up three hundred thousand viewers from its last new episode. Doctor Odyssey was down one hundred thousand viewers. 9-1-1 was down one hundred thousand viewers, while Grey's Anatomy was up one hundred thousand viewers.

CBS had a quiet week last week. The network feasted on an NFL overrun that helped Tracker with an additional two hundred thousand viewers over the previous week. Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage picked up an additional two hundred thousand viewers. The latest Big Bang Theory spin-off will be an easy renewal decision for the network. The Summit will also be an easy decision. Its chances for renewal are slim at best. In the middle is NCIS: Origins. The latest NCIS spin-off has not performed as well as the network had hoped, but TV execs do like their franchise shows. It's also good to remember NCIS wasn't a ratings hit until its fourth season. With that in mind, chances are Origins will see at least a second season. Poppa's House was also in a good place for renewal last week. Assuming it doesn't lose any more viewers, it will likely be renewed, too.

FOX had a middling week without the help of an NFL overrun. The Simpsons and Universal Basic Guys were each down one hundred thousand viewers from their last non-boosted episodes. Bob's Burgers and Krapopolis were even. Murder in a Small Town was up a couple of tens of thousands of viewers after taking a couple of weeks off. Rescue HI-Surf was even but still low. Its chances for renewal will depend on how the network's remaining scripted shows do in the winter and spring.

The holidays are right around the corner, and networks will switch from their fall schedules to holiday fare soon. This means freshman shows only have a couple more weeks to prove their worth and continue past the holiday break and into the new year. Will your favorite shows make the cut?
Written by LadyShelley on Nov 19, 2024
Welcome to the new normal. Before streamers, networks would air 22-24 episodes over a Fall and Spring season and sprinkle in some reruns when necessary to fill out the schedules. Today, repeats are network nadir, and episode counts are smaller. (Eighteen episodes is considered a "full" season by network execs today). So instead of a Fall and Spring season of 12-13 episodes each, there is:
A fall season (September to November)
A 'holiday season' (November-December) where all of the holiday-specific competition shows and annual holiday classics air
A winter season (that's January to March)
And a spring season (March to May)
All of this is to try and compete more with streamers and not air repeats.
St Denis Medical was off to a good start last week. Hopefully it holds onto that audience. NBC needs some good comedies.
Well maybe if these new shows weren't off for two months they might keep their audience. They have more breaks than schools do
I’m liking St. Denis Medical so far, I’m curious to see if the rest of the episodes are as entertaining as the first two. Of the new ones I’m watching on Fox, I’m enjoying Murder in a Small Town a little bit more than Rescue Hi-Surf.
