Friday's ratings were delayed for the Martin Luther King holiday

NBC renewed freshman comedy, St Denis Medical, for a second season last week. The series has been a ratings high point for the network's comedy block, so the renewal was not unexpected. The series returned from the holiday break last week, even with its last new episode in December. Night Court returned from the holiday break, down about one hundred thousand viewers, but will likely be renewed. Found returned after its long break, up three hundred thousand viewers from its last new episode in November. The Irrational was down a few tens of thousands of viewers.

ABC had a solid week last week. High Potential was up one hundred thousand viewers, increasing its chances for a second season. Will Trent was down a couple hundred thousand viewers off its premiere but is in no danger. The Rookie held its premiere audience. Shifting Gears lost a million and a half viewers off its premiere, a not-unexpected drop, but remained the highest-rated comedy for the network. Unless the wheels completely fall off, it will be an easy renewal. With the loss of viewers for its lead-in, Abbott Elementary was also down nearly a million viewers but will be renewed.

LATE UPDATE: High Potential was renewed for a second season. Abbott Elementary was renewed for its fifth season.

FOX renewed Murder in a Small Town for a second season last week. Freshman medical drama, Doc, picked up three hundred thousand viewers over its premiere. As long as it holds those numbers the show should be an easy renewal. Going Dutch picked up a few tens of thousands of viewers last week. Fans of the show should be concerned as it's the lowest-rated scripted show on the network. Animal Control isn't doing much better, but it picked up about one hundred thousand viewers last week.

That was a bit of a surprise in that FOX usually doesn't make mid season announcements like that.
