Locatetv.com alternative - Don't lose your Picks

Hi everyone,

Sad news came in the form of a blog for LocateTV users on the 25th of February 2016: “The website will be shut down on 16 March 2016, with registered users no longer able to access shortlists, My Picks or receive weekly digest emails.”

Shortly after the news was out, LocateTV users started transitioning over to TVmaze as an alternative. And as when moving to a new house, you want to re-organize some things to make yourself as comfortable as possible. And thus, requests for features that are defining for the functionality of LocateTV were made.

We have been listing and discussing the requests that everyone has been making. And currently, we are looking into how these should be implemented into our current system.

We wish to provide migrating users with the best possible alternative. If you are a LocateTV user, don't hesitate to let us know what you would like to see added to TVmaze below or on our forums.

But just creating new features isn't enough. We want to make sure your precious data isn't lost after LocateTV has closed its doors.

Thus, we have gotten in touch with the staff from LocateTV to create an exporter and importer tool. This way you would not only have a backup of your data, but it would also spare you the hassle of having to build your listings all over again, saving you countless hours of work. We are still working on this and it will likely only be available after the LocateTV shutdown. If you wish to keep informed it's best you follow this blog.

In the meanwhile if you aren't familiar with TVmaze and are looking for a LocateTV.com alternative, check out the features TVmaze has to offer: http://www.tvmaze.com/site/features

Some key features:

- Followed Shows (just like "My Picks": follow the shows - or people - you love most)
- Show Tags (which gives you the ability to organize your shows as you see fit)
- Watchlist (an overview of the episodes from your favorite shows that you haven't watched yet)
- Show Calendar (a monthly calendar with all of your favorite shows' new episodes)
- Network Schedule (hour-by-hour overview of everything that's airing tonight)
- Detailed Show/episode info

As mentioned above we will update this blog on how things are progressing so stay tuned.

Best regards,

Jan

Update 25-05-2016

In order to keep everyone up to date about the importer: Please read the following statement.

Update 12-06-2016

David said the following:

We've been working on a tool that'll allow you to to import your LocateTV picks. We don't have a lot of example LocateTV exports available here, so it hasn't been tested very well yet. I'd love it if some people can try it out and leave your feedback here! Unfortunately episode data isn't included in the LocateTV export file, so for now the only thing we can import is your shows.

To get started, visit: http://www.tvmaze.com/migrate/locatetv

We've asked about the episode data to the guys at LocateTV. Hopefully exports with the episode data will be provided.
Once there is more news we'll let everyone know how things are progressing.

@Trgz Hi there, how are you doing?

To answer your remarks: We are called TVmaze. Meaning we only provide TV related data.

As for region shows. We allow shows from all over the world to be added to the database. If there is something missing you can make a request for it to be added here. http://www.tvmaze.com/request/create

If there are features you feel should be added to the site, you can make a suggestion on our forums or vote on those that are pending. http://www.tvmaze.com/forums/6/pending-features

cheers,

Jan

this is useless. All US based (seemingly) and it appears to be totally TV biased and doesn't recognise film titles - shoddy in comparison to locate TV

I have tried TV Maze and everything else i could find online, nothing comes close to Locate TV and none are as user friendly.

I am another of the many that used Locate TV that shut down. NOTHING else is like it but if someone would do what they did, they would be an instant hit. Is it possible for you to allow us to enter TV shows, even old shows and movies from the past in a list so it'll show on our own TV schedule when that show or movie will come on? Locate TV did that and it would show the times it would air and the channels, you could also enter names of celebrities to get their shows/movies and it would show you when they had movies/shows coming on they were in. Locate TV allowed us to enter 250 shows/movies/celebrities for our own personal schedule. Nothing showed up on our schedule unless one of our picks was coming on. It was a 2 week schedule.

I'm lost... #1 - how do I upload the file that Locate TV sent me? #2 - where to find instructions on how to use the site, or a HELP feature? #3 - how can I change my username (I didn't realize it'd be made public). Thanks for your help with all this.

Help. how do I upload my json file to TV MAZE????

sdcatv posted 7 years ago

Hi TVMaze., the locateTV email stated your site already has an upload capability a month ago and then again in the past day or two when they corrected their email to actually include each users JSON file.

This page was created by TVMaze April 5th - the least you could do for potential customers is update with the latest status and estimate when the simple json upload is expected to be available. It can't be that difficult to do either, create an upload utility or update this page with ETA and problems preventing implementation of what should be a simple data upload.

So I now have the JSON file from Locate.TV. So do I import it ? I cannot find anything on the site for this.
