Viewing ratings and voting on the general show page

Hi everyone,

Last week we received feedback on the forum regarding the lack of voting on shows and episodes.

To get a better general idea, we checked out some statistics such as:

  • the amount of shows being 'followed' vs rated.
  • 'watched' episodes vs rated.
  • ...

Our conclusion was that the gap between shows being followed/watched and the ratings count was ridiculously disproportionate.

The lack of votes has caused a downwards spiral where users vote less because of the lack of votes. we want to turn that around and we need your help to accomplish this.

Since a show rating and the amount of votes is one of the factors as to whether someone will watch a show, we've set up a plan to improve the way shows and episodes are voted on.

Our first change has already been implemented on the general show page. Where you now can directly vote on shows without having to visit the show page itself.

We're also increasing the amount of votes required before users can see an average rating. One single rating is not representative of a show's quality and can have a negative impact on how a show is perceived. So, we'd rather not show anything until the rating is more balanced.

We think that these changes will have a positive impact.
Should you have any feedback, we would very much like to hear it.

cheers,

Jan & David

@Draidor when you vote in the bit below the shows main image on its home page, you are voting for the show as a whole. If you want to vote on individual episodes, go to that episode and there is a section there for voting on it.

When we vote on the 'Shows' page, are we voting on the show, the season, or the latest episode? Thanks

And a suggestion... It might be a tight fit, but it would be very cool if we could vote on the calendar page.

@AlexMitchell: I've added your suggestion to the pending features. http://www.tvmaze.com/threads/3119/rate-a-show-season

What if there was a way to rate each season! But sometimes you want to know if the season is good before you binge.

I really try and rate each and every episode I watch. I do not always (or very often) comment, but I will at least try and rate the episode.

There are a few shows here and there that are not up-to-date with all the episodes. I will try and add episodes as I can, but sometimes it is more of a hassle to try and track them down to add.

I am also voting on each show and each episode I watched :)

Nice, I'd like to see more voters. I vote (try to) on every single ep I watched. Also hope I voted all shows I've seen with general vote. Still, not so long here, going around the site and voting what I've seen already. :)

Really nice New feature which should encourage users to vote.

@Thomas, I assume if/when it has the effect wanted (ie more people rating shows/episodes) you will gradually increase the requirement? For whatever it's worth, I think a goal of at least 10 is not outa line.

Also I see it is not retroactive and only applies going forward ... was that by plan or oversight?

@Silver, currently it requires at least 3 votes per show or episode, however this may be adjusted in time.
