A large amount of backstory for Ma'chello was detailed in the Stargate SG-1 Roleplaying Game rulebook Stargate SG-1: Friends and Foes: Stargate Season Two. This backstory reveals that the Goa'uld System Lord that destroyed his world was Ares. Ares later plays a role in "It's Good to Be King" where then Brigadier General Jack O'Neill kills him in battle.

Ma'chello again plays a role in the Season 3 episode "Legacy" (although he does not appear), in which Jackson is infected with an invention created by Ma'chello designed to destroy the Goa'uld inhabiting a host.

During the conversation between Dr. Daniel Jackson and Ma'chello, Jackson states that "I am Daniel Jackson" while Ma'chello repeats the same sentence as if he really believed he is Daniel Jackson. This is of note, as both Daniel Jackson and Ma'chello are portrayed by Michael Shanks.
