During a routine reconnaissance mission, the UAV plane crashes into a cactus-like plant. Sent to recover the plane, SG-1 discovers that the inhabitants have begun falling ill, and before long a plague of illness sweeps the race.

Fraiser is surprised that SG teams haven't infected alien populations with Earth diseases more often. She theorizes that because humans have been transplanted from Earth to many planets throughout the Milky Way galaxy, most of the contaminants carried by SG teams are already out there.

When Colonel Jack O'Neill says "What do you think, Daniel? Are they friendly spirits?" This is a reference to The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, an animated television series from the 1960s.

This episode is Dr. Janet Fraiser's second trip through the Stargate. The first was in Season One's "Singularity". However, this is the first time that she is seen going through the Stargate.
