An agent is killed while investigating a small island, and a doctor is abducted after a demonstration of a technique to bring a frog out of hibernation. Steed, Purdey, and Gambit discover the connection is "Germany's Greatest Treasure" and a small island harboring a group of monks.

On the island of St. Dorca, George Stannard runs along a deserted stretch of beach. Two fishermen follow, trying to snag Stannard with the hooks on their fishing lines. Stannard comes to a hill overlooking a monastery and runs toward it, seeking sanctuary. Meanwhile, Father Trasker is telling the brothers that they are a day away from the most auspicious day on their calendar, April 20. Stannard staggers in and collapses, exhausted.
