Born in Hampshire, England, Alex Lawther became involved in the drama program at Churcher's College, and in 2010 was accepted into the National Youth Theatre where he received his formal training as an actor. His professional debut was at age 16 on stage in the role of John Blakemore in South Downs. In 2013 he landed the title role in Benjamin Britten: Peace and Conflict.
