Born in Fort Pierce, Florida, Ricou Browning, a graduate in physical education from Florida State University, began his career as a teen in Wakulla Springs performing in underwater newsreels. In 1954 he was a stunt diver in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and was The Gill-Man (in the water) for the Creature From the Black Lagoon franchise. In the 1960s he co-wrote and co-produced the 1963 film Flipper, and the subsequent tv series that debuted in 1964.
Ricou Browning died at his home in Florida at the age of 93.
