Dancing with the Devil Recap

Hank, Divya and Jeremiah are being briefed by Evan via video-conference about their new client, Ava, a pop singer with a diva personality. Jeremiah comments to Divya that she appears to be wearing the same clothes as the previous day, but she denies it. Hank notices a piece of straw stuck in her hair, just as he leaves to see about a page he received from Boris' estate.

Hank is surprised when he finds out the page came from Marisa, who is worried about her infant son. She trusts Hank but he has limited experience with infants and promises to find her the best pediatrician in the Hamptons.

Evan and Paige are in New York where she has enrolled in school and is anxious to learn whether she was accepted into the class she wants. When she learns she succeeded, she is overjoyed but somehow reluctant to join Evan and go visit her parents. Evan thinks it is because of the recent revelation that she was adopted, but she insists she is fine with that news.

Hank, Divya and Jeremiah arrive at the theater where Ava's upcoming show tour is being rehearsed. To Hank's surprise, Ava turns out to be a quiet unassuming woman dressed plainly and speaking with a southern accent, not the diva he expected. Ava starts to lead HankMed to a quieter place to talk when she collapses into Hank's arms.

Ava quickly recovers and says she was just dizzy. She is from a small town in Arkansas and for the last 8 weeks has been in the Hamptons rehearsing and working hard for her upcoming tour. Her blood pressure is higher than normal and Hank theorizes her workload, anxiety and lack of a proper diet may be the underlying cause of her problems, but proposes the inevitable lab tests for confirmation. During the exam, Divya is distracted by a text on her phone, unusual for her.

Paige takes Evan to see her parents' apartment. They are not there but Evan is overly impressed by the location and view of the city. He tells her he will come visit her every weekend while she is in school but she is not very enthusiastic about staying there. Her excuse is the distance from school but we learn different when we see her sadness when she enters her childhood room and she is reminded of the adoption.

Hank and Divya take Marisa and her baby to see Harper Kubelick, the pediatrician he had one date with that was interrupted by Boris. While Hank and Harper take the baby into another room for a test, Divya receives another page on her phone. When Marisa inquires, Divya all but bursts out with the news of her romantic evening with Rafa. Marisa is supportive and suggests she not waste any time and be with him as much as possible.

Hank apologizes to Harper about their aborted date and insists his referral was professional. When the baby only takes a small amount of formula, Hank can't help himself and suggests a diagnostic test. Harper reminds him who the pediatrician is and Hank apologizes, then asks for her recommendation. She reluctantly indicates the same test, to Hank's delight.

At the theater, Ava is rehearsing a song with complex acrobatics when she has problems gripping with her hand and falls to the stage. Hank, Divya and Jeremiah return to help and Hank examines Ava who was not seriously hurt. He scolds her about not following his advice about resting and eating properly. She tells him she is lonely being so far from home with no family with her and she is too busy preparing for her tour to eat well. Hank invites her to come to his place for dinner so he can make sure she eats a good meal.

As Jeremiah and Divya attend to one of the dancers, Divya receives another page and asks Jeremiah if he is busy that night. When he says he is free, his initial elation is thwarted when Divya asks him to cover her on call duty that evening.

Hank and Marisa take her baby to Harper for the test. Harper cannot find anything wrong and Marisa fears the worst. Harper requests she not panic and let her keep looking and recommends a visit to Marisa's home to see the baby's environment. Marisa agrees and leaves. Harper gets a phone call and Hank comments on the ring tone, which is one of Ava's songs. Hank gets an idea and invites Harper to dinner at his house to meet Ava.

At the Lawson home, the group sits down to eat the meal that Ava prepared for them. Everyone is impressed until she tells them the recipe is possum pie, a meal her grandmother made. Then she lets them off the hook when she reveals she used chicken instead. She comments on how she is proud of her heritage, and that her family is her identity, a statement that hits Paige especially hard.

During the meal, Hank gets a text with the results of Ava's blood test. It indicates some problems with her pituitary glands and Jeremiah suggest a test that requires sputum samples every four hours. He volunteers to visit her hotel that night to get the samples as he only sleeps 3 hours at a time and he also seems quite taken with Ava. Everyone agrees and as Ava leaves, she takes one last swig from a soda can and then Jeremiah notices and is puzzled as she puts the empty can into her purse.

Hank walks Harper to her car after the dinner and she explains her upbringing, which sheds light about why she is not interested in dating a doctor. She wants someone who will be available for social and family responsibilities, and she knows how crazy a doctor's life can be.

Divya arrives at Rafa's hotel room but  he does not appear to be there. She walks out onto the balcony where he is waiting for her. He immediately starts pushing her romantic buttons and she seems surprised when she responds.

Jeremiah arrives at Ava's hotel room at 11 PM for her first sample and is surprised to find her getting dressed up for a night on the town. She says her publicist insists on her making public appearances at nightclubs twice a week to maintain her image. Jeremiah reminds her she needs to give another sample at 3 AM, but she is not sure where she will be at that time so she drags him along. The first stop is a nightclub, where he finds out she emptied his medical bag and stuffed it with her supplies. She tries to get him on the dance floor but he has a panic attack and calls Divya. Divya is not available to take Jeremiah's call, as she is in bed with Rafa, so Jeremiah calls Hank to relieve him.

Evan finds Paige on the patio, unable to sleep. She finally admits being angry with her parents for concealing her adoption, saying she has lost her sense of home. Evan consoles her by telling her he will give her that sense back, when they start their new family together.

At the nightclub, Ava finally gets Jeremiah on the dance floor where he starts to have a good time. Ava suddenly collapses while all the dancers start snapping pictures with their cell phones, Jeremiah starts resuscitation attempts. Hank soon arrives with his medical bag to assist. She is taken to the emergency room where she is found to have low potassium levels. While the hospital staff work on her, Hank and Jeremiah discuss her underlying issue and discover that she chews a licorice flavored tobacco, which explains the soda can she took with her and also explains her medical issue as she is suffering from licorice poisoning.

At Boris' estate, Hank and Harper try to change the baby's diaper while Marisa answers her phone. While playing with the baby, Harper realizes what the babies problem is, his tongue is being restricted so that he cannot provide strong suction on his baby bottle. This leads to not enough food and slower growth.

Hank and Jeremiah visit Ava and tell her the good news and that she will recover quickly once her potassium levels are restored. She thanks Jeremiah for saving her life and he recommends she stop chewing tobacco, giving her a gift bag with nicotine patches and bubble gum as incentive. Divya enters and apologizes for not answering her phone. Hank is suspicious and wonders why she is feeling guilty.

Evan and Paige check out the tiny dorm room Paige is assigned at the university. Evan is disappointed and surprised when Paige is jubilant. She is happy to have something of her own as she starts her new life.

Hank stops by Harper's office to giver her a backstage pass to Ava's concert and tells her he thinks he can be the guy in her life that she can depend on.
