Mihalko I agree with you. But I don't think it is the cast mainly to blame, but the new direction of the script of the series. It has moved to the classic detective shows. Now the main and recurring characters are mainly police officers, the effort that was given to promote Shetland in the series is gone. Also there is no character to replace the one of Perez, as the show changed direction. But we totally agree that the old Shetland is gone....
I'm out. I cannot do it anymore. Since Henshall left I'm been faithfully watching hoping the high quality acting and writing will continue. It has not. It has gotten so back I will not even bother watching the final episode of the season. I love Alison O'Donnell and like Ashley Jensen but neither have the acting range to play a leader role is a drama where the required acting is nuanced, where expression and body language is more important than your lines.
Another excellent series. Pity Jimmy had to go, what a strong character, excellently played by Henshall.
