Scrubs

The best part of the show for me is how they replicated the set of the old North Hollywood hospital. I also like that this feels like a continuation of Season 8, while still carrying forward some Season 9 elements. The Season 1–8/Season 9 hybrid logos are a nice touch, and I appreciate that they acknowledge Eliot and J.D. having a child, which was part of the Season 9 storyline between them. Unfortunately, most of the rest of Season 9 seems to have been forgotten.

Even creator Bill Lawrence has said that he always viewed Season 9 as a spin-off, but ABC wanted it to remain part of the original series. For me, Season 8 is where the story of the original cast— Kelso, J.D., Eliot, Turk, Carla, The Janitor, and several of the doctors from their residency—really continued. Season 9 then shifted the focus to a new group of characters.

My biggest disappointment is the flashback footage. I wish the Season 1–7 flashbacks had remained in their original 4:3 presentation, as audiences originally saw them, rather than being given an HD upscale. The upscaling takes something away from the look and feel of those scenes for me.

The new interns also reflect the style of modern medicine that I experience as someone living with a chronic illness, which gives their stories an interesting sense of familiarity. The Human Resources character initially got on my nerves, much like she did Dr. Cox, but after watching the show twice, she really started to grow on me. Some of her jokes actually had me laughing while I was lying in bed dealing with pain, which is something I really appreciated.

Overall, this isn't the original eight seasons of Scrubs or the Med School spin-off era, but it isn't trying to be. It's a continuation of the characters' lives following Season 8 and Med School, and I think it's best appreciated on those terms.

It's also nice to see Nurse Carla return and reprise her role, especially since Judy Reyes is now starring in High Potential as well. Seeing a familiar character back in the Scrubs world adds another welcome connection to the original series.

These characters are insufferable 

The new cast doesn't even come close to the original cast of even the derided final season which I enjoyed.
