data from tvrage

Since TVRage is back, and they have some old data (some of which i entered) from a few shows - would it be possible to download it here?

I believe TVrage's API hasn't been published as of yet and therefore would not be possible to add data

oh, thanks for the info.

too bad, hopefully they'll release it, and with it - the data.

They won't until they get money for it. And it doesn't look like people want to invest in something while there is no assurances the site will stay put.

Pretty ballsy of them to be asking for donations claiming that if they reach their budget goal then everything will be fine again. And right after achieving their goal, they start a new donation campaign asking for even more money.

I think David or Jan said when tvrage was offline, users sent them enough data dumps to recover the lost data. Your data might be in those dumps. If so, they probably don't even need the api.

Keep in mind that some of that data (not much, relatively speaking) is the intellectual property of the individual contributors. Original summaries and recaps, mostly.

And much of it can be found elsewhere. It's not like TVRage has an exclusive on show and episode cast lists.

Presumably TVMaze would need to somehow confirm that any exclusive data from TVRage was being downloaded with the permission of its creator.

Yeah, that second donation campaign didn't go well at all. That's why it's not even visible on the site anymore. But it exists if you know the link to it.

The only thing would be to contribute on both websites, a lot of people do...

Indeed, tvrage doesn't have an API anymore so it would be impossible to link up with them. And we did collect quite a few data dumps back a few months ago when it looked like they shut down forever.

However, we stopped working on combining and sanitizing those dumps when it came (mostly) back online. So unfortunately if you want to carry over any of your work, you'll have to do so manually.
