LocateTV.com closing down

Could somebody in charge please go to this site and examine what it can do. It's what I wish tvmaze did! For any given day you can see a simple, uncluttered, chronological list of all episodes showing of whatever series you're following, but ONLY of episodes you haven't already seen (or have marked as seen but which you want to see again). I've been using LocateTV.com for this purpose for all seven years of its existence and will miss it terribly.

Allowing your users to "follow" shows and select episodes already gives you the database to do this. Is there any chance it could happen?

Have you experimented with our Watch List (http://www.tvmaze.com/watchlist) yet? I know it's not exactly what you describe, but if you set it to sort by "Aired most recently" it would come pretty close: a chronological list of all unwatched episodes from the shows you follow. :)

echo14612 wrote 9 years ago: 1

Hmmmm. Thank you for your response! I did a spot check of my Watch List using "Aired most recently." In every instance the air date was the same as the episode premiere date. Also, I'm seeking a way to see what episodes are going to be shown in the future (days/weeks), not "recently" (in the past). The list would include repeat episodes as well as new ones, and would be filtered to exclude those I've marked as already seen.

Am I missing something?

"The list would include repeat episodes" - TVMaze only stores information (and therefore only shows on the calender/schedule) about premiere dates for episodes, so you won't find that functionality.

My request is that they add it!

Gadfly wrote 9 years ago: 1

The problem isn't adding the functionality. It's finding someone to enter the data.

For instance, House and MacGyver often run 5-10 episodes a day on one U.S. cable channel or another. Someone would have to submit every repeat, for every hour of every day that they air. Multiply that times hundreds of shows in the U.S. alone, including non U.S. shows. How many times does BBCAmerica run repeats of Doctor Who?

DrewSRQ wrote 9 years ago: 1

The thing I liked best about LocateTV was that once I told them what my zip code and cable provider are they were able to alert me to what shows were playing when (and on what channel, too), in my specific area, not just nationally. Now, I only joined TVMaze an hour ago but so far I don't see that feature here at all, so, do you have, or are you planning, that feature?

david wrote 9 years ago: 1

There are two different features mentioned in this thread.

One of them is adding support for "alternate airdates". If we do this, we would start listing the first time an episode premieres in each country, instead of only listing the world-first premiere like we currently do. This is a popular request that we might add in the future, although doing so is quite a lot of work!

The other one is showing a listing of everything that airs on TV in a given day, even if it's the 10th rerun of that episode or if it's a TV movie instead of an actual TV show. Something like this is not planned.

OK. Too bad! Yes, what I envision (and what LocateTV provides) is a listing of everything that is airing, regardless of its status as a repeat and filtered by what I've marked as wanting to see. The "alternate airdates" feature wouldn't help me.

Please read the comments under LocateTV's blog announcement that it's staying open for another two weeks. Some of them make clear the ways the site is unique. There's a real opportunity there! Isn't anybody interested?

It is definitely unique to feature all airdates of all shows, but we simply do not have the manpower for it and this is also simply not our goal.

(pasting it here as well just in case someone comes accross this thread looking for info)

To all users from LocateTV,

We just posted a blog with some news regarding the shutdown. You're welcome to share and follow it for more updates.

http://www.tvmaze.com/blogs/10/locatetvcom-alternative-dont-lose-your-picks

If you have suggestions in regards to functionality you'd like to see implemented but hasn't been mentioned before.
Then it would be best to create a new thread in the suggestions forum for further discussion. http://www.tvmaze.com/forums/2/suggestions

(It's easier for us to sort everything if there are seperate threads instead of a long one with various suggestions)

We welcome all ideas. Be descriptive of how you'd like to see things integrated into our current system.

cheers,

Jan

Hi John, welcome to the site. Happy to have you with us.
I've noted your request for discussion with the others. We'll likely put this up for voting in the pending features forum. The more votes your request gets, the sooner we'll work on it.

If there are other things you think we should have a look at, just let us know.

I am also new to the site, by a few minutes. Found you by looking for alternatives to Locate TV. I also vote for "my picks" that would send me a weekly updates when they were on my TV provider. All the best!

I work for an actor that has been in a lot of TV over the years, I need to be able to enter his name and have a list of when he's on TV next for repeated shows and new ones that he is in.

Locate TV was great as they alerted me when he was on TV next. I'm sorry if this has already been asked but is there anyway this feature can be added here?

gazza911 wrote 9 years ago: 1

@KillerQueen

If you haven't already, I suggest you read the rest of the posts above.

You can follow an actor, but all that does is list them under http://www.tvmaze.com/dashboard/follows#people - in other words, you'd need to manually visit their page to see if there's been any [new] additions (repeats aren't recorded here).

If you're meaning via the API, then it's somewhat limited; although you can get some info about the cast and the shows, you can't find out - via the API - which episodes they were actually in (via their 'people', 'character' or any embedded endpoints).

P.S If I missed something, feel free to prove me wrong

Try titantv.com I use to use Locate TV and when it shut down I went to titantv which can almost be set up the same way. The only difference is that you have to search for actors every week or so to see if they have new movies showing and select it, but once you select a show or movie it will appear on your favorites every time it is on.

Hello,

I've just had an email from Locate Tv, saying that I can forward all of my info over to any site, and gave the link for TVMaze. How do I do that?
