TVMaze vanished from google?

BrettMarks wrote 9 years ago: 1

I have that at least over the last week that tvmaze seems to have vanished from google? Like if I search for "{show name} tvmaze" or even just "tvmaze" it no longer shows up.

Is it just me or does this happen for everyone?

What gives!?

I think Google has banned TVmaze at the request of rights holders.. LOL

You must fix it..

It's a good thing I bookmarked the site for my browser. In addition, I can find it through their Twitter. I first found this site through a browser extension I insalled (I still use it.).

Hi everyone,

We're looking into it. We're certain whatever triggered this at google happened by mistake and are waiting for clarification from them.
There isn't much info to share at the moment. We'll post an update once something has changed with the current situation.

cheers,

Jan

On a somewhat related note, does anyone know what cppqy.com is? I do a search for a show + TVmaze, and it takes me there. And they seem to be copying TVMaze's information directly, including the format. For instance:

http://cppqy.com/tvmaze/characters/189248/wynonna-earp-wynonna-earp

That's after entering Wynonna Earp TVMaze in Google.

I have a hunch that Google banned the legitimate TVMaze by mistake instead of the impostor CPPQY.COM site that copied TVMaze.

If you haven't already, you should see if there's any messages on the Google Webmasters Tools (requires verifying access if you haven't already set it up).

P.S It's not just downranking, it's completely removed; site:tvmaze.com which would show only your indexed pages has 0 results.

yeh a manual penalty seems to remove a site for a specific amount of time from google results, anyhow I do not know much about that stuff, that is for david and jan to find out. good thing we do not rely on google that much, the site is still pretty busy :)

Yeah i think that might be correct. If you try and go to cppqy.com you get an FBI page on cyber crime

CPPQY is just a proxy for blocked websites, Been there for quite some time already.

Since late last week, there's been a mistake over at Google that's causing us to be temporarily delisted from their search results. We reached out to Google almost immediately when this happened, but we've yet to receive a response. We're confident that it'll be resolved as soon as we manage to reach someone from their team, but there's no saying how long that will take. If anyone happens to have a contact inside the Google Search team, please let us know, but otherwise there's not much we - or you - can do.

Some technical details for whoever's interested: we indeed received a "manual action" notice via the webmaster tools. It reads that we're blocked because we use aggressive techniques like "automatically generated gibberish", "cloaking", etc. This has obviously been in error; we've never employed any kind of questionable SEO technique, and everyone here knows that every last bit of information on TVmaze has been manually submitted by our users. We immediately applied for "reconsideration" and asked for clarification on their forums, but there hasn't been any response to either.

---

Regarding the "CPPQY" website; it's a scam group who make their money by mirroring other websites' content then inject popup ads into them. They also use various other domains such as "RNHTG". Do not under any circumstances use any of these sites; it'll steal your login credentials or worse: infect you with viruses.

They target dozens of websites, not just TVmaze, so I don't think there's a direct link between them and the Google issues.

Thanks for the info guys - I found it very disturbing when I couldn't find a trace of the site on Google anymore as I found this amazing site after TVRage vanished for good and it is now my new home. :)

Great news: Google fixed the problem and we're back! Unfortunately we didn't receive a reply to our inquiries, so we don't know what went wrong exactly. Let's just hope it won't happen again :)

Also, if you ever notice any more sites like "CPPQY" please report them to us as soon as possible, so we can do our best to take them out.
