Submission suggestion

JAGUARDOG wrote 9 years ago: 1

I would like to know if time can be added to the show submission list? This way if a show is submitted more than once in the same day the one with the earliest time is approved and all others are Rejected as duplicate submissions. In other words "First Come, First Served" I believe is the Only fair way to process these requests. I know this may only happen Once in a Blue Moon but it happened just yesterday. Case in point as I submitted the new Nicktoons show "Chase Champion" and at the time I submitted it no other submissions were pending. Later on I submitted a second new show "American Monster" and saw at that time on the list that some other member had also submitted "Chase Champion" after I did. The second submission was approved and mine was Rejected as a duplicate. However mind had 12 points on it the other had only 10 points but more importantly mine was submitted first and should have been the one that was approved the other Rejected not the other way around. Besides the member that submitted the second one Failed to even look at the list of pending submissions or they would have seen that it was already pending which is their fault for not looking! This may be "Sour Grapes" on my part but I don't care as someone who fails to look on the submission list before they request a new show should not be rewarded for a duplicate submission!

Hi Ron,

I did not see who submitted it first as both were on the same day, but as the tvdb id was given to the other and it was easier for me to transfer your imdb id + tvrage id to the other request.

And that is exactly why I am requesting that time submitted also be added please?

To be fair to whoever added the request the second time, finding a list of pending requests is right at impossible unless you know such a list exists, know where to find it and keep it bookmarked. Chances are they never even knew someone had already requested the program.

I guess you never have ever submitted a show to be added to the site before? If you had you would know that to add a show when you click on the link it takes you to the list before you can add a new show. There is no other way to add a new show without first seeing the list. Try to add a show you know is not a valid show and then click on the link and you will see what I mean! As of this minute there is 1 pending show on the list to be approved and I am going to add a new one myself right now, thank you very mucho!

Pardon us, but no shows or people matching your query were found.
You can make a request to add the show you're looking for.

In the right bottom of TVMaze's layout there is a request button which takes you directly to the form to fill information.

So if you add that way you do not see the pending list how dumb that is?

That's not dumb, it's a shortcut.

We agree to Disagree mein heir! It's dumb because anyone who uses that shortcut cannot see the pending list to ensure they do NOT submit a show/person already pending on that list!

Most contributors don't care what order the submissions are made in.

The complaint seems to be that staff didn't do it in the order it was submitted. Thomas already explained why he chose which one to accept, and it doesn't sound like anyone (Thomas or the contributor) knowing the submission times would have made a difference.

Now if you want to argue that the policy should be different, that's a different issue.

I did not ask why it happened nor do I care about any explanation on how it happened. For the 3rd time I am only asking to have the time added to the pending list.

And since learning the shortcut exists at the bottom that the short cut takes members to the pending list first.

Is that too much to ask, I don't think so so your defending him holds no water to me?

And even if we direct you to a ''pending list'', I'm pretty sure some users won't even verify it and hit that ''create new'' button to fill in their information like we have some guys submitting 'The Flash' or 'Arrow' a few weeks ago, while it was already in our database for years.....

People are people. Is it really worth to make such a trouble over just 12 points?

It's NOT at all about the points it is about the original point!

If it won't solve the issue you raise, then yes, it is "too much" to ask. Because it's unnecessary if it doesn't solve the issue, and the site programmers have other things to do.

FYI, I'm not defending the policy or Thomas' practice, just noting that what happened had nothing to do with pending times.

I added links to the request index from the Create Request page: http://www.tvmaze.com/request/create.

Well that's a nice feature and nice try on resolving the issue at hand but..... how many members will even read that before submitting their request maybe 2%?

Well it is up to everyone now to read it :)

To be honest, until you can search the requests, I doubt people will do it.
