Edit Requests

Hello,

I wanted to bring an issue with the Canadian web channels listed on TVmaze to your attention. A number of the Canadian streaming services and websites currently listed appear to be significantly out of date due to several major changes in the Canadian streaming landscape.

For example:

Rogers Sports & Media: Citytv and the other Rogers-owned channels have moved their streaming presence to Citytv+ at CityTVPlus.ca. The existing Citytv web channel listing therefore no longer reflects the current service.

Bell Media: Bell Media, which operates CTV, Noovo, and several other CTV-branded channels, as well as the Canadian services for USA Network, E!, and others, has consolidated its streaming services and websites under Crave. This change took effect on April 30, 2026. Bell Media announced the expansion here: https://www.bellmedia.ca/the-lede/press/bigger-better-craves-expansion-is-here-more-leading-content-one-powerful-service/

Corus Entertainment / Global: GlobalTV.com is currently being transitioned/rebranded as STACKTV, including its streaming presence. More information is available here: https://info.stacktv.ca/article/new-stacktv-app/ This is similar to the previous transition from CBS All Access to Paramount+, where the previous CBS All Access web presence was replaced by the Paramount+ service.

There is also an unusual situation with Discovery+ in Canada. DiscoveryPlus.ca and DiscoveryPlus.com are now separate services operated by different companies: Warner Bros. Discovery operates DiscoveryPlus.com, while Rogers Sports & Media operates DiscoveryPlus.ca in Canada.

Would it be possible to review the Canadian web channels and update them to reflect these current services and ownership arrangements?

I realize that maintaining the web-channel database is a significant task, but the Canadian listings are becoming increasingly inaccurate as these services have changed.

Thank you for your time and for maintaining TVmaze!

Please remove Anthony Anderson from the 'Guest Cast' section here. I've already added his 'Host' role under the show's main cast, but cannot properly add that to the upcoming ceremony until the Guest Cast listing is removed from there.

Curious, are Greek shows and actors exceptions from the Data Policies? And if so, why doesn't the Policies say that?

For example, they do say:

A summary should always be in English, regardless of the Show's language.

For actors, a name in the Latin character set is always preferred. If an actor's original name is non-Latin (e.g. Kanji or Cyrillic), credits in any movie or TV show the actor has ever starred in can be used to find a Romanized (converted to Latin script) version of their name.

And yet, there are now multiple shows (titles, summaries, etc) and tons of actors added here using Greek character set, without even having Latin character set aka's added.

I’m genuinely curious what exactly the issue is with Greek shows and Greek actors being listed using the Greek alphabet.

Greek is not some alternative or unofficial “character set.” It is the native alphabet of the Greek language. These are Greek television productions and Greek actors, so naturally their original titles and names exist in Greek.

If there is a specific Data Policy requiring a Latin-character AKA to be added for every Greek title or person, then please point me to that policy and I will be happy to follow it if I have extra time. But describing Greek shows and “tons of actors” being added in Greek as though the use of their native alphabet itself is somehow a problem comes across rather strangely.

I have spent a considerable amount of time researching older Greek television, checking original on-screen credits and adding accurate information for shows and actors that were previously missing from the database. My intention is simply to contribute accurate and properly researched information.

If adding this kind of content is a problem, then please let me know, because I would rather know now than continue spending so much of my time researching and contributing information that apparently isn’t wanted here.

Show names and Episode names should generally be in the original language and character set with some exceptions (mostly around streaming shows).  Episode summaries should be in English as that's the most common language for the site.  Similarly, Latin character sets are preferred for actor names to allow easy searching.  Everyone is welcome to contribute, but you should be respecting the site policies.

Thank you, but what you quoted actually seems to confirm my understanding.

The policy says that show and episode names should generally be in the original language and character set. For a Greek television series, that means Greek.

For actor names, it says that Latin character sets are “preferred” for easier searching. It does not say that non Latin character sets are prohibited or that a Greek actor’s name cannot be entered in Greek. “Preferred” is not the same as “required.”

I also think searchability works both ways. TVmaze is an international database, and the people most likely to be searching for Greek actors and Greek television shows are people who actually watch Greek television. Many of those users will naturally search for Ελένη Ράντου  rather than a Latin transliteration of her name. The same applies to Greek show titles. Having the original Greek name therefore improves searchability for those users rather than hindering it.

Latin transliterations can absolutely be added as AKAs so that people searching with Latin characters can find the same person or show as well. That seems to serve both audiences without sacrificing the original name. If anyone wants to add Latin transliterations as AKAs, they are of course welcome to do so. That is simply not my priority when I am researching and adding the original Greek credits.

Regarding your comment that I “should be respecting the site policies,” I find that wording unnecessarily accusatory. I have never suggested that I would not respect the site policies. Quite the opposite. I am asking for clarification precisely because I want the information I contribute to comply with them.

For example, Costas explained to me last week that summaries should be in English. Once that was clarified, I went back and changed the summaries I had entered in Greek. So I think there is an important distinction between not respecting a policy and simply asking for clarification about what that policy actually requires.

What I am not interested in doing is replacing Greek actors’ actual names with Latin transliterations when their names can be entered correctly in their native alphabet and a Latin version can simply be included as an AKA.

If TVmaze has a specific rule requiring Greek names to be transliterated and used as the primary name, then I would simply like that clarified so I can decide whether it makes sense for me to continue spending my time researching and contributing this material.

What we've done with other non-Latin character sets, like Russian, is allow the original name if they have only been credited under that name. If they've been credited anywhere with a Latin name, that name should be used. AKAs encouraged either way, ofc.
