Downton Abbey's Specials

Cecile wrote 6 years ago: 1

Hello,

According to the data policies, episodes who enter the full narrative of a show should be place as regular episodes even if they are chrismas episodes. So I had placed Chrismas episodes of Downton Abbey in each seasons as episodes 9, as they are designed by the show's creator. The show has been intended that way and those episodes can't be passed.

But they have been changed back as specials.

What should we do ? Regular or specials ?

How does the official site treat them?

As Chrismas Episodes.

You can't follow the story without them

Let us wait what others have to say about it :)

Is it just a normal episode with the story arc continuing, just set at Christmas?

Yes, exactly

From the 2011 Christmas episode press pack "The hugely successful Downton Abbey returns at Christmas for a one off episode set over Christmas 1919.", so listing them as specials is very correct, in the same way we do with the Doctor Who Christmas episodes.

Considering Christmas episodes of Doctor Who are a part of the story, they should also be marked in their seasons

I'm not arguing against the 'official' classification of those episodes, but for the data policies and usability of TvMaze. It said that episodes who are a full part of the show story should be marked as regular, and only episodes who are not part of the arc story should be marked as specials.

http://www.tvmaze.com/faq/15/episodes : For most shows, deciding whether an episode should be classified as special is fairly easy: if the premise of an episode significally differs from normal episodes and if you can skip it without missing out on any story arcs, it's a special

Christmas episodes for bristish show are big parts of their arcs.

Also, if they're not marked as regular, they don't show up in the watchlist, and you can miss a big part of the story (especially considering the fact they usually contain very important information for the arcs).

We had that kind of discussion some time ago already, especially for Dr. Who. There are many arguments for both sides, but we decided to go with adding them as specials.

That's a different discussion :) Meanwhile you can vote for the pending feature http://www.tvmaze.com/threads/1888/better-handling-of-specials, which will include adding specials to watchlist (AFAIK).
