I left it as is so TPTB can have a look if needs be ... I assume, but haven't checked, it's an error and should be January 2019 but, shouldn't the system catch this and flag it and/or automatically stop showing it as "returning, January 2018" when the date has already past?

No error there, at least not in the code. The show have season 3 added, which is set to premiere on January 2018. You could just click on the "January 2018" in the status and it would lead you straight to the season.

I assume instead of releasing January episodes as season 3, Amazon released them as season 202 (as opposed to season 201, the first half of season 2). Hence the confusion, the episodes were added to season 2, but season 3 was not deleted. All should be fine now.

But it was still showing in July as returning in January. I understand there was a mix-up but shouldn't the system still catch this and flag it and/or automatically stop showing it as returning once the month of return has long ago passed? I assumed 'returning' was always going to be a point in the future, not in the past ... that's why I thought it could be a bug.

Season 3 normally in the future relative to season 2 :)

But it kind of is the bug, or rather lack of the additional data check. I've seen some shows in development, which should've premiered in 2017 (or someone thought that they would've premiered), but despite it's 2018, the system still shows "In Development; premiering 2017" :D

Ya, a data check that every month spits out a "Hey, you may wanna look at these entries" list. Shows in development for 37 or more months, in TBD status for 37 or more months, whose premiere/return date has passed but no action has been taken to add episodes, running shows with no new episodes in the last 13 or more months, or any other situation that probably needs attention.
